This one time on The Drew Barrymore Show, Drew Barrymore was disappointed to hear why Eugene Levy “never really got to see” the infamous pie scene from his 1999 sex comedy American Pie.

In the raunchy scene, Levy’s character catches his son Jim (played by Jason Biggs) using an apple pie to masturbate, leaving him horrified.

During a game of “Behind the Scenes” on The Drew Barrymore Show, Barrymore asked Levy if he knew the scene would turn out to be such a classic.

“The problem with me is I never really got to see the pie scene,” Levy admitted. “Because when I walk in on Jim and there’s an ‘x’ taped onto a light stand and they say, ‘This is where Jim’s gonna be,’ and that’s all I got to see.”

He added, “So I walk in staring at an ‘x’ going, ‘Jim?!'”

While Barrymore was fully aware of how scenes like this work having been in show-biz for practically her entire life, she was still bummed out to learn that Levy and Biggs weren’t actually in the room together when they filmed the scene.

“Well, that’s not fun!” she said, to which Levy joked, “I mean, think about it. When you watch it again, you’ll see just how great an acting job I did.”

The talk show host agreed, telling her guest that she “would’ve never known” that he wasn’t reacting to Biggs going to town with the dessert in real-time.

Levy, of course, was there to promote the new season of his comedy series The Reluctant Traveler. But he will never be able to live down his time starring in the American Pie franchise — and he is well aware of that.

“I know when we’re doing [The Reluctant Traveler] all over the world, the one thing people recognize me for is American Pie,” he recently told Variety. “Still to this day, it is crazy how that is the one. It was great fun, and I did a few of them.”
