Patricia Richardson had a frank response to the rumors of a potential Home Improvement reboot starring the original cast: She’s not interested.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Back to the Best podcast, Richardson claimed that Tim Allen never approached her to reprise her role as his onscreen wife, Jill, in a potential reboot.

“It was so weird, I would hear he was coming out publicly and saying this stuff about everyone was on board to do a Home Improvement reunion, but he never asked me and he never asked Jonathan [Taylor Thomas],” she said.

Richardson even got in touch with Thomas, who played her son Randy on the show, to confirm if he had heard anything about the reboot Allen was promoting.

“I called Jonathan one day and said, ‘Has he asked you about this? He went, ‘No,'” she recalled. “So why is he saying everyone is on board when he hasn’t talked to you or me?”

When a script began circulating online, Richardson said she shared a statement on social media outrightly denying her involvement in the project.

“I wrote a big thing on Twitter and said I’m not involved in any series with Jill and I’ve also never even been asked to do another Home Improvement reunion thing, but I would not want to,” she said.

The actress also listed a myriad of reasons as to why a Home Improvement reboot would no longer be feasible, considering where the cast has found themselves almost 25 years later.

“I mean, Zach is now a felon,” she said, referring to Zachery Tyler Bryan, who was recently arrested and charged for DUI. “Taran [Noah Smith] hasn’t acted since he left the show; he’s not an actor anymore. And Jonathan’s not really interested in acting. He wants to direct and write.”

She also noted actor Earl Hindman, who played their neighbor Wilson, passed away in 2003.

Allen has referenced a spinoff series before, noting that he and the actors who played his on-screen sons “keep talking” about the possibility.

“It’s funny, one of the conversations we’ve had recently is how weird it would be if Home Improvement would be about the kids’ kids,” Allen told The Messenger in 2023. “Like if all of them had children, and I’m a grandparent. Home Re-Improvement or something like that. It’s come up.”
