We’ve got some happy news, courtesy of Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler!

A clip from Friday’s (April 5) installment of The Drew Barrymore Show was posted on Instagram on Thursday (April 4), in which Barrymore cited a Variety report teasing that “Adam Sandler may have written the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2,” per TheWrap.

“I want it, I need it, and I stayed up late last night with my daughter watching Billy Madison,” she shared.

Barrymore noted that she “sent Sandler a video of that and then he sent [her] another video back,” and is currently “waiting to see if he’s confirming about the Happy Gilmore 2 script.”

Barrymore brought up Happy Gilmore star Christopher McDonald, the actor who portrayed Shooter McGavin in the iconic 1996 sports comedy, who recently revealed that he was reportedly shown “the first draft” of a sequel.

Deeming herself a “proper journalist,” Barrymore sent a selfie featuring herself, Ross Matthews, and the studio audience to Sandler, and requested intel. Fortunately, she scored some inside scoop.

“Well, this just in, I have breaking news,” she revealed. “So, I’ll just say this, from my source, that it is in process.”

Following a round of applause from the audience, she added, “There is a process, and that process is in process.”

It’s only fitting that Barrymore had the chance to tease this news, as she has co-starred alongside Sandler in The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates, and Blended, all of which were producer under his Happy Madison banner. Last February, she had teased that she and Sandler were “definitely talking about” reuniting for another movie, but that she “think[s] it’s very script-story-specific.”

“And yeah, we’re actively seeking the right thing,” she said on The Drew Barrymore Show at the time. “I’ll just leave it at that.”

Happy Gilmore is streaming on Netflix. The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays on CBS. You can check the website for local airtimes.
