A cause of death has been confirmed in the sudden passing of 27-year-old actor Cole Brings Plenty.

Authorities report that “there is no indication of foul play” in his death, according to a press release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Brings Plenty’s body was found in a “wooded area” in Kansas after his family reported him missing following a domestic violence incident that allegedly occurred March 31.

Lawrence Police Chief Rich Lockhart also released a statement after his cause of death was revealed, saying, “This is a tragic case for everyone involved. Your Police Department worked very hard to investigate the incidents and worked very hard to find Cole. None of us could have imagined this outcome. I learned through this series of events that our Police Department must work harder to increase trust with our Native American community members.”

The actor is best known for starring in the Yellowstone spin-off 1923, in which he played sheep herder Pete Plenty Clouds.

This role marked the start of his brief career in acting. He also appeared in The Tall Tales of Jim Bridger and Into the Wild Frontier.

The local authorities have been criticized for how they’ve handled this investigation. The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe demanded “a full and thorough investigation into Cole’s disappearance and subsequent death.” The Tribe also noted that their Attorney General would be in touch with local authorities “to ensure this is accomplished.”

His father, Joe Brings Plenty, confirmed his sudden passing and thanked supporters.

“We would alsolike to thank everyone who came to walk beside us as we searched for my son and provided the resources we needed to expand our search areas,” he said, per NBC News. “I learned this week how many people knew the goodness in Cole’s heart and loved him.”
