Tommy Kinard is back on 9-1-1 and stealing hearts left and right.

Whether the former 118er is hitting it off with his new pal Eddie Diaz (Ryan Guzman), making Robert “Buck” Buckley (Oliver Stark) swoon, or leaving a positive impression on viewers, it seems as though Tommy is here to stay this time — at least for now.

So who is Tommy on 9-1-1 and what should you know about Lou Ferrigno Jr., the actor who plays him?

From Tommy’s history on the show and his budding relationship with Buck to Lou Ferrigno Jr.’s past projects, age, dad, and more, here’s everything to know about the 9-1-1 star and his compelling character.

Who is Tommy on 9-1-1?

Longtime 9-1-1 fans will recall Ferrigno Jr.’s character Tommy Kinard appeared in three Season 2 flashback episodes: “Hen Begins,” “Chimney Begins,” and “Bobby Begins Again.” The show established that Tommy left the 118 for a job at LAFD Air Operations, and he was mentioned several times throughout the years, but Season 7, Episode 3 brought him back when Buck, Eddie, Hen (Aisha Hinds), and Chimney (Kenneth Choi) enlisted his help — and helicopter — to save Bobby and Athena from their capsized cruise ship.

Following the joint rescue mission, 9-1-1 Season 7, Episode 4 revealed that Tommy and Eddie had become fast friends, which made Buck felt incredibly left out. After Buck navigated a complex concoction of emotions — displaying palpable jealousy over Eddie and Tommy’s newfound friendship — the episode ended with a twist, and a kiss.

9-1-1 Season 7: Buck And Tommy’s Kiss

As Decider broke down in a previous article, 9-1-1 sealed its historic 100th episode with a monumental same-sex kiss between Buck and Tommy. In the episode’s final minutes, Tommy unexpectedly visited Buck’s apartment to clear the air. After both boys apologized for their behavior, Buck admitted that all this time he was trying to get Tommy’s attention, promting Tommy to kiss him mid-sentence in a super sexy, genuinely surprising twist. Though the former 118 member had to race across town for a shift, he adorably asked Buck out on a date, ensuring we haven’t seen the last of Tommy yet.

A significant portion of 9-1-1‘s fandom has been begging writers to explore Buck’s sexuality for years, calling out subtle signs through the seasons that suggested Buck wasn’t straight. Fans had grown fearful the show was leading them on with no real intentions of making Buck canonically queer, which was one reason why the Buck and Tommy kiss was so major.
