Disney filed a motion to have Gina Carano‘s lawsuit dismissed, detailing why the actress was ultimately fired in the midst of her budding career with the company.

In a motion filed Tuesday (April 9), Disney revealed that Carano was fired from The Mandalorian in 2021 because she shared a post on social media that aimed “to publicly trivialize the Holocaust by comparing criticism of political conservatives to the annihilation of millions of Jewish people—notably, not ‘thousands,'” per Deadline.

The filing states this was “the final straw for Disney.”

The post in question, which is cited in the filing, read, “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?’”

The filing states that this was the point at which “Disney had enough.” The company maintains that it has the “constitutional right not to associate its artistic expression with Carano’s speech,” and asked that Carano’s lawsuit be tossed out.

The actress and former MMA fighter filed her lawsuit this past March, accusing Disney and Lucasfilm of discrimination and wrongful termination.

The lawsuit, which is being funded by Elon Musk, claims that Disney “targeted, harassed, publicly humiliated, defamed, and went to great lengths to destroy Carano’s career, all because she made political statements that did not align with what they believed was an acceptable viewpoint.” She also claimed that her male co-stars were not similarly disciplined for sharing their own political beliefs on social media.

But her firing came after she made several controversial posts on X, then known as Twitter.

According to a Hollywood Reporter source, Disney had been “looking for a reason to fire her for two months” by the time she shared that post that became “the final straw.”

In a statement, Carano said, “Some of us have been unjustly singled out, harassed, persecuted and had our livelihoods stripped away because we dared to encourage conversation, asked questions, and refused to go along with the mob.”

Carano seeks damages and to be hired back on The Mandalorian, though her character was swiftly written off the show after her firing.
