Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos may still be airing previously recorded episodes of Live with Kelly and Mark, but at least fans got their much-needed daily dose of dog content!

The two co-hosts honored National Pet Day (April 11) on this morning’s episode by gushing about their own two pups, Chewie and Lena. As Consuelos showed the audience a picture of the pets, he shared that they “love [their] two doggies,” and that he’s “so glad [they] adopted them.”

Ripa echoed her husband and co-host, who then asked how they plan to celebrate their two dogs.

“Are we going to give them a little extra snack?” he added.

Ripa replied, “Oh, are you going to let them have snacks all of a sudden?”

Consuelos then backtracked his proposal, noting that their youngest dog, Lena, “has a sensitive tummy.”

Ripa confirmed, noting that “Lena has IBS,” which garnered a couple laughs from the crowd.

“I’m not kidding,” she added. “We didn’t even know dogs could have that. But we have a special dog, and she has that. And Chewie’s on an old dog diet. So both of our dogs have a very bland, very strict diets.”

Consuelos chimed in, explaining that whenever they “put the food down” for them, they’re met with very little enthusiasm.

Ripa teased with a sigh, “‘Really? This is the best you can come up with?’ I’ve never seen two dogs so unmotivated.”

Not so discretely pointing at Ripa, Consuelos revealed, “Chewie was fed table food early on. And so she is ravenous.”

Then, Ripa urged Consuelos to “stop pointing to” her, blaming their dog trainer who taught [them] to give her table food.”

With a smug look on his face, Consuelos looked offstage, and eventually conceded, “Ok. Goldfish.”

Ripa retorted, “Tomorrow on the show, I will bring in a video of Mark cooking Chewie a steak on her birthday and feeding it to her.”

While Consuelos admitted “that’s right,” Ripa continued, “And then I’ll show you a video of Mark giving Chewie a cheeseburger.”

Consuelos noted that their eldest dog “has the taste for human food,” but now “makes no bones about it.”

This prompted Ripa to recall spending Thanksgiving with her children, Anderson Cooper, his husband Benjamin Maisani, and their son Wyatt during the pandemic, noting that the latter three were in their “social bubble.”

Highlighting that Consuelos was in Vancouver, Ripa also noted that it was Wyatt’s “first Thanksgiving,” and gushed about how “excited” they were to have a baby in the house.

“And he’s just the sweetest, most beautiful baby, and we’re making him smile. And all of a sudden I hear Benjamin go, ‘Uh-oh,'” she shared. “And I turn around, and there’s Chewie is standing in the middle of the dining room table eating the ham. Just going to town on the ham.”

While Consuelos teased that she “just doesn’t care,” Ripa agreed.

“And when I was like, ‘Chewie, no!’ She was like, ‘Oh, yes!'” she continued. “Did not make a break for it. [She] was like, ‘No I’m going to stand here until you pull me off of the table.'”
