Following a Hulu debut bigger than The Bear‘s in March 2024, the final episode of FX’s Shōgun is less than a week away.

The miniseries, which had been in the works since 2016, has been a massive hit for the streamer and network, and with good reason: the 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes should tell you everything you need to know.

Shōgun is adapted from the novel of the same name by James Clavell, and it’s full of power struggles, political intrigue, clandestine love affairs, mysterious strangers, and epic world-building.

Decider’s Meghan O’Keefe describes the show as “a beautiful, brutal gem of a show that celebrates Japanese culture with incredible writing and cinematic visuals.”

There’s always something exciting about a show with weekly releases, especially ones as buzzy as Shōgun — you just can’t beat real-time conversations on social media and in real life as new episodes air.
