It seems like Euphoria‘s stars know just as much as fans do about Season 3 — essentially nothing, that is.

While speaking with Variety at the Los Angeles premiere of Challengers on Tuesday (April 16), series star and executive producer Zendaya was asked if we will “see a third season” of the hit HBO drama. She replied, “I don’t know,” adding that she’s “not in charge.”

As for whether she would “want” a third installment, she explained, “If it’s right for the characters and everything turns out the way it should, of course. But it’s beyond me.”

Although the HBO drama was renewed for Season 3 in February 2022, the next installment has experienced several delays, with the most recent delay news being revealed by the network last month.

A spokesperson for HBO informed Variety that “HBO and [creator] Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” but that “in the interim, [they] are allowing [their] in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”

And it’s not just fans who are disappointed by the wait. An actor from the series — who opted to remain anonymous — told The Daily Beast that it’s been “two years of waiting.”

“Before last week I couldn’t take any TV jobs,” they said in a March interview, referring to the network’s statement made on March 25 allowing the cast to pursue other opportunities.

They added, “Since they have put it on hiatus, I can now take any job. But what sucks is that we all had more momentum right when the show came out but now it’s been two years of waiting.”

Another Variety report detailed the scrapped Season 3 scripts, which allegedly featured storylines like Rue (Zendaya) “working as a private detective” five years in the future, which was “immediately vetoed” by the network.

While Zendaya reportedly “offered Levinson significant input for where she’d like Season 3 to go,” she also pitched the idea of Rue being a pregnancy surrogate who is “now sober as a twentysomething young woman.”

Only time will tell what’s in store for Euphoria, which is streaming on Max.
