In the very first episode of Tubi‘s Big Mood, aspiring playwright Maggie (Nicola Coughlan) convinces her best friend Eddie (Lydia West) to pose as her “publicist” on a shoddily-planned return trip to her old school. It soon becomes apparent, however, that Maggie has orchestrated the event in the hopes that she might reunite with her handsome history teacher Mr. Wilson, who once rescued her from a different pervy teacher at a dance back in the day. “What if he’s my soulmate?” Maggie opines to a skeptical Lydia.

Somehow, even after a disastrous assembly — that starts off embarrassing, then becomes triumphant for the irreverent Maggie, only to become a problem all over again — it seems maybe Maggie was on to something. By episode’s end, Maggie and the older version of Mr. Wilson (Tim Downie), now principal, are boinking on his office desk.

It’s a silly, sexy, shameless moment from Maggie, but one that came with a question from Decider. Given the fact that Coughlan has divulged that she and Bridgerton co-star Luke Newton broke furniture shooting sex scenes for Season 3 of the steamy Netflix series, did that desk come out intact?!? Did she break furniture shooting yet another 2024 sex scene???

“No. No furniture was broken in Big Mood,” Coughlan said with a laugh.

Nevertheless, she admitted that shooting Bridgerton Season 3 before Big Mood definitely helped prepare her for the Tubi comedy’s raunchier scenes.

“Yeah, it helped massively because the sex scenes in Bridgerton, they take days to film. And you know, it’s so much about that,” she said. “And that’s the thing I really love about Bridgerton; It’s a show about female pleasure and women’s experiences.”

Coughlan explained that the steamy scenes she and Newton shot in their roles as Bridgerton Season 3’s main lovers, Penelope and Colin, were “so artfully, beautifully-done” and “thought-out.” Big Mood Episode 1’s desk scene, on the other hand?

“Doing a comedy sex scene, I was, like, not sweating,” Coughlan said. “I was like, ‘This is fine!'”

Coughlan was such a pro at the scene that Big Mood creator and her long-time IRL bestie Camilla Whitehead even commented to her, “You feel like you’ve been doing this like your whole life.”

“And I was like, ‘Yeah, this is good,'” Coughlan said. “And Tim Downie’s super, super nice.”

“But yeah, it was like night and day. Yeah, I don’t think I’m scared of [sex scenes] anymore.”
