This is not a drill: Anyone But You is now streaming on Netflix, which means you can now enjoy this delightful, sexy rom-com from the comfort of your couch, for the low price of a Netflix subscription.

Starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, Anyone But You is a loose, modern-day adaptation of William Shakespeare’s romantic comedy, Much Ado About Nothing. Sweeney stars as the Beatrice character, aka “Bea,” a law student who hits it off with a charming finance bro, Ben (Powell), at coffee shop. She spends the night… only to hear Ben shit-talking her to his roommate the next morning. When they run into each other six months later, a different sort of sparks are flying.

Critics gave Anyone But You mixed reviews, but audiences love the movie, in part because it’s a movie featuring hot people in a gorgeous location. What’s not to love? The movie takes place in Australia, but as savvy movie watchers know, not all films are shot in the locations where they take place. If you’re wondering where Anyone But You was filmed, read on to learn all about the Anyone But You filming locations.

Where was Anyone But You filmed?

Anyone But You was filmed on location in Australia. More specifically, Anyone But You filmed in the area around New South Wales and Sydney in March and February 2023. The film was the subject of an unusual amount of paparazzi attention, including snaps of Powell and Sweeney in their bathing suits on a boat off the coast of Sydney, Australia.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director Will Gluck said of the paparazzi, “There’s two young actors on the rise at a great location, in very little clothing, and they really, really like each other. So that makes for a very good photograph, and we were actually a little bit surprised with the amount of photographs that were taken of the set and how far they went.” But, Gluck added, “In Sydney, Australia, the paparazzi are so polite. If you asked them to leave us alone, they would.”

One location Gluck used for the film was the Sydney Cricket Ground, which doubled as an airport in the movie, and also briefly appears on scene during the “singalong” credits sequence. In that same Hollywood Reporter interview, Gluck explained, “When they’re picked up at the airport, the airport was actually the lobby of the Sydney Cricket Ground. That’s how big that building is. And when we were shooting there, behind us was the most famous stadium in all of Australia. And I said, ‘Why aren’t we filming there?’ So we asked them for their permission to quickly shoot there, and they said yes. We subsequently found out from our Australian friends how rare it is for anybody to shoot there. If we had asked [ahead of time] to shoot on the Sydney Cricket Ground, they probably would’ve said no, but because we were there, they said yes.”

And of course, a significant portion of the film was filmed in the Sydney Harbor, outside the famed Sydney Opera House. In a different interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gluck explained that the water surrounding the buoy where Powell and Sweeney were stranded was, in fact, infested with sharks in real life. “Initially they wouldn’t give us permission because [Sydney Harbor] is a huge shark area, and people get hurt by sharks all the time there,” Gluck said. The scenes in which stunt doubles were actually in the water were filmed with a large shark tank. “A shark tank is these floating buoys with a cage,” Gluck explained. “It was a little bit scary and strange at 3 in the morning with our actors swimming into a shark tank, knowing that they’re at a place where sharks like to hang out.”

So there you have it! Anyone But You really was filmed in Australia, in real shark-infested waters. Now that’s what I call cinema!
