Drew Barrymore once made the “embarrassing” mistake of thinking paparazzi were following her — when they were actually there for someone else.

On this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the actress-turned-talk show host welcomed singer Meghan Trainor to the Drew’s News desk, where she dished on her first date with now-husband (and Spy Kids star) Daryl Sabara.

According to Trainor, she and Sabara were making out in the backseat of a car on their first date — which also happened to be a double date with actress Chloë Grace Moretz and her then-boyfriend Brooklyn Beckham.

“I didn’t know who he was,” Trainor admitted of Beckham, who is the son of icons David Beckham and Victoria Beckham. “I was like, ‘God, these paparazzi are on us tonight.’ I was like, ‘We’re so famous. What’s happening?'”

However, Trainor wasn’t the only one in the room guilty of wrongfully thinking paparazzi were following her.

“I have the most embarrassing story,” Barrymore chimed in. “My best friend is Cameron Diaz. I’m not dropping a name, it’s just her name! She brings Jennifer Lawrence to lunch … I love Jennifer Lawrence.”

She continued, “We see these guys on bikes outside with cameras and backpacks and we’re like, ‘Oh shoot. How are we gonna get out of this lunch?'”

Barrymore recalled asking the restaurant employees if there was a back exit they could use.

“We were like, ‘There’s some people outside we’re trying to avoid,'” she explained. “Turns out they weren’t there for us at all. We went from feeling embarrassed to feeling really embarrassed. So it wasn’t for us at all.”

Barrymore and Diaz famously starred alongside one another in the 2000 action comedy Charlie’s Angels. They’ve remained besties ever since, with Diaz even making occasional appearances on The Drew Barrymore Show. Back in a November 2022 episode of the hit daytime talk show, Barrymore grossed Diaz out but making a raw chicken dance during a messy cooking segment.
