James Gunn Teases David Corenswet As Superman In New Photo: “Get Ready”

James Gunn has teased a first look at his upcoming Superman reboot starring David Corenswet as the iconic DC superhero.

The director shared a photo of Corenswet putting on his Superman shoes while wearing a weathered version of the famed suit with the caption, “Get ready.” He also added the movie’s release date, which is slated for July 11, 2025.

Aside from Corenswet, the reboot stars Nicholas Hoult as villain Lex Luthor and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Edi Gathegi, Terence Rosemore, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, María Gabriela de Faría and Wendell Pierce also star in the movie, per People.

Back in February, Gunn shared a cast photo from the first table read for the film, which was previously titled Superman: Legacy. Around the same time, Brosnahan opened up about the “amazing” experience with her castmates.

“It was amazing to hear the script out loud,” she told Variety. “As with all of these films, there’s a lot of action sequences and things. So to hear the pacing of the film and to get to hear these characters occupied by the actors who play them is really fun. It’s also a great group. You can’t ask for more than that when doing something like this.”

Brosnahan added that she’s been a longtime fan of Lois Lane.

“She’s smart, ambitious and can be funny. She knows she’s the smartest person in the room more often than not,” she said. “When the opportunity came on … I’m such a fan of James Gunn from afar … we’re still finding these characters. We haven’t started shooting yet. You’ll meet the final version of them.”

Corenswet, for his part, is gearing up to play an “optimistic” version of Superman.

“I would love to see somebody do an upbeat, throwback [take on Superman],” he told Entertainment Tonight. “I love the Henry Cavill dark and gritty take, but I would love to see the next one be very bright and optimistic.”
