Mother of the Bride is now streaming on Netflix, starring Brooke Shields as the high-strung, single mom of an influencer bride-to-be (played by Miranda Cosgrove). And, of course, it wouldn’t be an influencer wedding—nor a Netflix romantic comedy, for that matter—if it didn’t take place in an gorgeous, overseas location!

In this case, that location is Thailand, thanks to a generous offer from the bride’s company to pay for the wedding… as long as they can control every detail, to provide social media advertising for their sponsors. Shields’ character, Lana, is told to sit back, relax, and have a mai tai, while her daughter gets married without her help or input. But it’s hard to relax when Lana realizes that the single father of her soon-to-be son-in-law (Sean Teale) also happens to be the ex-boyfriend (Benjamin Bratt). And not just any ex-boyfriend, either. The serious college boyfriend, Will, who ghosted her and broke her heart. Uh-oh!

Can Will win back Lana’s heart? Or will she get together with the hot, young doctor (Chad Michael Murray) who’s been flirting with her? You’ll have to watch the movie to find out. But if you want to find out about the Mother of the Bride filming locations, all you have to do is read on.

Where was Mother of the Bride filmed?

Mother of the Bride was filmed on location in Thailand, at two different Anantara resorts—one in Bangok, and one Phuket. In a recent interview with Decider, Shields explained, “The two different resorts were put together [in the editing process] to look like one resort.”

Shields explained that the entire cast stayed in the resort together, and it sounds like they had an absolute blast.

“Wilson [Cruz, who plays Lana’s friend Scott in the film] called it summer camp, because we spent all of our time together,” Shields said. “We ate all of our meals together. We laughed, we danced. We had so much time to really get to know each other, without leaving the bubble and going to our real lives. I think that added a lot to the camaraderie and the chemistry.”
