Did someone say “bend and snap?” A new Legally Blonde prequel series, produced by Reese Witherspoon‘s (a.k.a. the Elle Woods) Hello Sunshine banner, is heading to Prime Video.

News of the new project, titled Elle, was unveiled at Prime Video’s upfront presentation on Tuesday (May 14), according to Entertainment Weekly. Eager to know what fans can expect from this Legally Blonde show? Here is what we know.

What is Elle about?

The series is set to center on Elle Woods while she’s in high school, “as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film,” per ABC News.

According to the outlet, Witherspoon, who originated the role of Elle Woods in the 2001 rom-com and reprised the role in the 2003 sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde , said in a statement that she “truly couldn’t be more excited about this series.”

“Fans will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do. What could be better than that?” she said.

Who is involved in Elle?

This new Legally Blonde show is created by showrunner and executive producer Laura Kittrell. Other executive producers include Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky, and Marc Platt.

Where can I stream the Legally Blonde movies?

As fans await more intel on Elle, they can stream Legally Blonde, Legally Blonde 2, and Legally Blondes — the 2009 film featuring Elle Woods’ blonde twin cousins starring Camilla “Milly” and Rebeca “Becky” Rosso — on Max.

Will there be a Legally Blonde 3?

The project was announced back in 2018 with a 2020 release date, which never came to fruition, per USA Today. While the original film’s writers, Karen McCullah and Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith, had written a script, writers Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor were later revealed to be taking on the project.

In September 2023, Kaling appeared on Bruce Bozzi’s iHeart podcast Table for Two, where she shared that in terms of scripts, they’ve “had a couple of iterations over the past couple of years,” but that the film is a “challenging project because of what makes it so great,” per Entertainment Tonight.

McCullah and Smith spoke with Decider and weighed in on the potential third film. While McCullah said, “I don’t know that that’s going to happen,” she noted that “it’s a nice thought.” Smith said it’s “kind of noting that they “hope” the film happens.

“Bring us Elle Woods. More Elle!” she added.
