Adam Sandler Will Return For ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ At Netflix

FORE!

A Happy Gilmore sequel was confirmed by Netflix at the streamer’s upfront presentation on Wednesday (May 15), with Adam Sandler attached to reprise his title role, per Variety.

Directed by Dennis Dugan, the beloved 1996 comedy follows Sandler’s Happy Gilmore, a short-tempered, aspiring ice hockey player who discovers his knack for golf. The film is considered one of Sandler’s classics, even comprising half of his Happy Madison production banner with his 1995 comedy Billy Madison, per Tampa Bay’s Mix 100.7.

Buzz about a possible Happy Gilmore 2 spurred after one of Sandler’s co-stars in the film, Christopher McDonald — who played Shooter McGavin — had revealed in March on Audacy’s 92.3 The Fan radio show that Sandler had shown him “the first draft” of the script, teasing at the time that “it’s in the works.”

The following month, Drew Barrymore squeezed some more intel out of Sandler via text message and revealed what he said with respect to the news on The Drew Barrymore Show.

“Well, this just in, I have breaking news. So, I’ll just say this, from my source, that it is in process,” she shared. “There is a process, and that process is in process.”

The original film also featured the talents of Allen Covert, Carl Weathers, Frances Bay, Kevin Nealon, Joe Flaherty Julie Bowen, Richard Kiel and Bob Barker.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, information on the newly announced sequel’s plot, writer, and director have yet to be revealed. Who knows, maybe we’ll see a collab with the real-life college golfer, Happy Gilmore?
