While the extroverts are outside lounging on the beach, discovering free concerts, and catching up with friends at beer gardens, us indoor kids will stick to watching the Netflix movies coming out in Summer 2024, thank you very much.

Even though Netflix has released less original movies in 2024 than the streamer has in previous years, there are still plenty of new titles coming to Netflix in the next three months, from a wide variety of genres. You’ve got star-driven action flicks, like Jennifer Lopez’s Atlas and Jessica Alba’s Trigger Warning. You’ve got new material from auteur directors, like Richard Linklater’s latest comedy with Glen Powel, Hit Man. You’ve got the return of beloved franchises, like Eddie Murphy’s Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, aka Beverly Hills Cop 4. And you’ve got new adorable romantic comedies, like Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman’s A Family Affair.

Netflix truly has something for everyone this summer, so get ready to close the windows, crank up the AC, and stay inside. Check out Decider’s list of the 11 top movies coming to Netflix in Summer 2024 below, including the Netflix 2024 summer movie release dates.

  1. ATLAS

    Atlas

    RELEASE DATE: 5/24/24
STARS: Jennifer Lopez, Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, and Mark Strong
    DIRECTOR: Brad Peyton

Last year JLo won Netflix with her hit film The Mother, and she’s back at again with a new action, sci-fi flick. Lopez stars as a human analyst named Atlas Shepherd, who doesn’t trust anything AI-related. She has a good reason for that: The AI-bots in this world went mad with power, attacked the humans, and then fled Earth. Marvel’s Simu Liu stars as the head evil robot, but we have a feeling he’ll be no match for JLo’s toned arms.

  2. Hit Man

    RELEASE DATE: 6/7/24
STARS: Glen Powell, Adria Arjona, Austin Amelio, and Retta.
    DIRECTOR: Richard Linklater

Oh, we can’t wait for this one. Directed by Richard Linklater, with a screenplay co-written by Linklater and Powell, Hit Man first premiered at the 2023 Venice Film Festival back in September, to rave reviews from critics. The film is based on a 2001 Texas Monthly article of the same name by Skip Hollandsworth, which details the true story of Gary Johnson (played by Powell in the film), a professional assassin who was hired to kill more than sixty people in Texas. The twist? He was not an actual hit man. He was an undercover cop.

  3. Black Barbie

    RELEASE DATE: 6/19/24
    DIRECTOR: Lagueria Davis

This upcoming documentary is being produced by Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers of Shondaland, and it sounds fascinating. Written and directed by Lagueria Davis, the film will delve into the history of the first Black Barbie doll, which debuted at Mattel in 1980, 31 years after the launch of the original white Barbie. The film was already well-received by critics at South by Southwest Film Festival, and feels like it could offer a nice counter-narrative to last year’s film of the summer, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.

  4. Trigger Warning

Trigger Warning. Jessica Alba as Parker in Trigger Warning.
    Photo: Ursula Coyote/Netflix

    RELEASE DATE: 6/21/24
STARS: Jessica Alba, Anthony Michael Hall
    DIRECTOR: Mouly Surya

Netflix has seen good luck with female-led action flicks before, and we don’t see why Trigger Warning would be an exception. Jessica Alba stars as Special Forces officer who takes over her grandfather’s bar, and runs into some trouble with the local gang members. But don’t worry, Jessica’s got it covered. If you loved the recent Road House remake, you’ll probably love this one, too!

  5. A Family Affair

A Family Affair. (L-R) Nicole Kidman as Brooke Harwood, Joey King as Zara Ford and Zac Efron as Chris Cole in A Family Affair.
    Photo: Tina Rowden/Netflix

    RELEASE DATE: 6/28/24
STARS: Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, Joey King, Liza Koshy, and Kathy Bates.
    DIRECTOR: Richard LaGravenese

After witnessing Zac Efron’s Oscar-worthy performance in The Iron Claw, we’re on the edge of the seat to watch his next project. That said, this rom-com starring Zefron as a movie star who falls in love with the mother (Nicole Kidman) of his young co-star (Joey King), was filmed before The Iron Claw, with its release delayed due to the strike. With a cast like that, can you blame them?

  6. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F

    RELEASE DATE: 7/3/24
STARS: Eddie Murphy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Taylour Paige, Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot and Kevin Bacon
    DIRECTOR: Mark Molloy

Yes, that’s right, Eddie Murphy and Netflix are giving us a fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie, so get ready to laugh. Detective Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) is back on the beat in Beverly Hills. After his daughter’s life is threatened, she (Taylour Paige) and Foley team up with a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and old pals Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) to turn up the heat and uncover a conspiracy.

  7. Find Me Falling

Find Me Falling. (L-R) Agni Scott as Sia and Harry Connick Jr. as John in Find Me Falling.
    Photo: Pavlos Vrionides/Netflix

    RELEASE DATE: 7/19/24
STARS: Harry Connick Jr., Agni Scott, Ali Fumiko Whitney, Tony Demetriou, Aggeliki Filippidou, Lea Maleni, Athina Roditou and Clarence Smith
    DIRECTOR: Stelana Kliris

Netflix loves a romantic comedy, and we love them for it. This new one will star Harry Connick Jr. as an aging rock star who absconds to a gorgeous, remote island to try to get his groove back. (The dream!) An old flame from his past (Agni Scott) interrupts his plans of peace, but she might just be exactly what he didn’t know he was looking for. This one sounds cheesy as hell in the best way, plus, you’ll get to hear Harry Connick Jr. sing! That’s always a good time.

  8. Skywalkers: A Love Story

    Skywalkers: A Love Story
    Photo: Netflix

    RELEASE DATE: 7/19/24
STARS: Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus
    DIRECTOR: Jeff Zimbalist

Despite the name, this upcoming Netflix documentary has absolutely nothing to do with the Star Wars franchise. Instead, it tells the story of a daredevil couple, Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus, who decided to illegally climb the world’s last “supertall” skyscraper, in a death-defying stunt. What better way to reward dangerous, illegal activity than with a Netflix documentary? That’s the streamer’s MO.

  9. The Union

The Union. (L to R) Halle Berry as Roxanne Hall and Mark Wahlberg as Mike McKenna in The Union.
    Photo: Laura Radford/Netflix

    RELEASE DATE: 8/16/24
STARS: Mark Wahlberg, Halle Berry, Mike Colter, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Alice Lee, Jackie Earle Haley, and J. K. Simmons.
    DIRECTOR: Julian Farino

Another summer, another Mark Wahlberg action-comedy on Netflix. This time, Wahlberg is teaming up with Oscar-winner Halle Berry. Wahlberg stars as a construction worker, while Berry plays his former high school girlfriend. Through a series of classic action-comedy shenanigans, the pair get roped into the dangerous world of espionage. No doubt lukewarm hilarity will ensue!

  10. Incoming

Bobby Cannavale and Kaitlin Olson side by side
    Photo: Getty Images

    RELEASE DATE: 8/23/24
STARS: Mason Thames, Bobby Cannavale, Kaitlin Olson, Scott MacArthur, Raphael Alejandro, Isabella Ferreira, Ali Gallo, Loren Gray, Ramon Reed and Bardia Seiri
DIRECTOR: Dave Chernin and John Chernin

This upcoming teen comedy, which comes from the brothers behind the series The Mick and which was acquired by Netflix last year, sounds like a classic “one crazy night” high school movie: Four freshmen (Mason Thames, Bardia Seiri, Ramon Reed, and Raphael Alejandro) attend their first-ever party, and nothing goes as planned. We’re not sure where Bobby Cannavale and Kaitlin Olson come in (parents, maybe?), but we’re excited.

  11. The Old Guard 2

THE OLD GUARD - Charlize Theron as ”Andy"
    Photo: Aimee Spinks/NETFLIX

    RELEASE DATE: TBA
STARS: Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Matthias Schoenaerts, Vân Veronica Ngô, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Uma Thurman and Henry Golding.
    DIRECTOR: Victoria Mahoney

OK, we don’t know for sure that Netflix will release The Old Guard 2 this summer, because the movie still doesn’t have a release date. But we’re manifesting that! The movie wrapped production back in 2022, and it feels like a perfect summer streaming hit. C’mon, Netflix! Please? Even though we’re bummed that Gina Prince-Bythewood won’t be directing the sequel, we’re hyped for the sequel to one of Netflix’s best originals in recent years, about a team of immortal mercenaries led by Charlize Theron. Like the first film, the sequel screenplay was written by Greg Rucka, based on his comic book of the same name.
