Netflix has renewed its dystopian thriller 3 Body Problem for two more seasons.

The streamer announced that Seasons 2 & 3 will allow the show to “tell the complete story of the seminal book series.”

It had been previously announced at the platform’s upfront presentation that there would be “all-new episodes” but no further details were revealed at the time.

The number of seasons now matches the books in Cixin Liu’s trilogy, on which the series is based.

According to a Netflix press release, writer D.B. Weiss (who co-created Game of Thrones) said: “We included a lot of what we loved from the [novels by Cixin Liu] in Season 1, but the vast majority of reasons we wanted to make this show are in Season 2. We always wanted to get to the final page of the third book, and it’s really, really thrilling to us that we will get to do just that.”

3 Body Problem follows a young Chinese woman named Ye Wenjie (Rosalind Chao) whose actions in the 1960s have a profound impact on the lives of a group of present-day scientists.

Also starring in the series are Jovan Adepo, John Bradley, Liam Cunningham, Eiza Gonzalez, Jess Hong, Mario Kelly, Benedict Wong, and Jonathan Pryce.

Benioff, Weiss, and Alexander Woo, who all have deals at Netflix, serve as creators, writers, and executive producers on the series. Bernadette Caulfield, Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, Nena Rodrigue, Lin Qi, Zhao Jilong as well as Brad Pitt also executive produce the show.

Dede Gardner’s Plan B Entertainment and Jeremy Kleiner’s company produce alongside Rosamund Pike and Robie Uniacke for Primitive Streak.
