Netflix is kicking off its 2024 summer movie season this week with Hit Man, the new Glen Powell movie from filmmaker Richard Linklater.
The film, which was directed by Linklater and co-written by Linklater and Powell, is based on a 2001 Texas Monthly article of the same name by Skip Hollandsworth, which details the true story of Gary Johnson (played by Powell in the film), a professional assassin who was hired to kill more than sixty people in Texas. The twist? He was not an actual hit man. He was an undercover cop.
Also starring Adria Arjona, Austin Amelio, and Retta, Hit Man first premiered at the 2023 Venice Film Festival back in September, to rave reviews from critics. Netflix subscribers have eagerly been awaiting the Hit Man streaming release ever since. Now, that moment is finally here.
