Mark Consuelos might be sleeping in the dog house tonight. On this morning’s episode of Live with Kelly & Mark, the actor revealed his “controversial” opinion about men leaving the toilet seat up.

The conversation came up at the top of the episode when Consuelos and his wife Kelly Ripa chatted about their weekend.

“We had dinner with a group of guys Friday night and when everybody left the house, every toilet seat was up in our house,” Ripa said. “It was so shocking to me. I was like, ‘What is wrong with you? Put the toilet seat down!’ I don’t understand — why is that hard?”

Consuelos appeared to contemplate her question for a moment before finally answering, “Hm. I’m not sure. I have thoughts about that but I think it’s very controversial. I think that since, you know, maybe you should put the seat up after you’re done.”

While a wave of disapproval swept across Ripa’s face, the men in the live studio audience cheered Consuelos on, prompting Ripa to address them directly.

“Oh, that’s so brave of you guys!” Ripa told the audience members. “Just remember, you’re going home with the women to your right.”

Consuelos then added, “Seriously. I think that there should be a new movement: lift the seat up.”

Ripa, however, offered up an even “better” idea.

“You should all have to squat when it’s time to use the seat,” she suggested. “Let’s remove the seat! Because women, we squat all the time. We hover. We’re squatters. We’re professional squatters. We’ve become used to having to squat and hover. That’s not a big deal for us.”

She added, “You guys will be like — three seconds [and] you’ll be like, ‘This is the worst form of human suffering!'”

Consuelos agreed with his wife, joking that he’s “gonna try it out” and get back to her tomorrow.
