Drew Barrymore Set To Take The Center Square In ‘Hollywood Squares’ Game Show Reboot

Former NFL star and CBS Mornings co-host Nate Burleson has been tapped to host the network’s new reboot of the classic game show, Hollywood Squares, with Drew Barrymore set to star.

Hollywood Squares pits two contestants against each other in a game of tic-tac-toe. But the board is comprised of open-faced squares, each of which is inhabited by a different celebrity who must answer the players’ questions.

Barrymore will be a regular figure on the show, sitting in the famed center square. She will also co-produce with her company, Flower Films.

This is not the first time the NBC game show has been revived. The series premiered on NBC in 1966 before it was later rebooted again in 1986 with John Davidson as host, and a third time in 1998 with Tom Bergeron.

In the 1998 iteration, Whoopi Goldberg both executive produced and starred in the permanent center square.

Later seasons had alternating celebrity guests sit in on the center square, including Ellen DeGeneres, Alec Baldwin, Pamela Anderson, and more.

Since retiring from the NFL after 11 years, Burleson has forged a successful career in television as a daytime host and NFL commentator. He has been co-hosting CBS Mornings since 2021 alongside Gayle King and Tony Dokoupil. He is also an Emmy award-winning analyst with the network, offering commentary on The NFL Today and NFL Slimetime.

Barrymore has also become a staple on the network with her hit daytime talk show The Drew Barrymore Show.

A premiere date has not been announced yet but Hollywood Squares is expected to premiere January 2025.

Hollywood Squares will air Wednesday evenings after The Price Is Right at Night and Raid the Cage at 10/9c.

It will stream live and on demand on Paramount+ With Showtime, and will be available next day for Paramount+ Essential subscribers.
