The future of Euphoria may still be unclear to fans, but HBO CEO Casey Bloys just offered a promising update.

Despite several production delays, Bloys confirmed to Variety that Euphoria creator, writer and director Sam Levinson “is working on” Season 3, revealing, “There’s been a lot of back and forth.”

According to Bloys, Levinson is having “issues” when it comes to when he wants Season 3 to pick up in terms of the characters’ lives.

“One of the issues I think that Sam is thinking about is that he doesn’t want to have it in high school anymore,” the chairman said. “That’s where it was set and what made sense then. So when you take it out of that, there’s a lot of back and forth about where to set it and how far in the future to set it and all that stuff.”

However, he added, “I think he’s got a take that he’s excited about, and he’s busy writing.”

As for whether original stars Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi will return, Bloys said the next season will have “the same core cast.”

It’s been more than two years since Euphoria Season 2 aired — and bringing another installment has certainly proven difficult. The network announced in the fall that Season 3 would be postponed until 2025 due to the dual Hollywood strikes pausing production last summer.

And HBO revealed that Season 3 had once again been delayed in March, though promised that the network and Levinson “remain committed to making an exceptional third season.” In the meantime, they were urging the “in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities,” per Variety.

Zendaya, who executive produces and stars in the show, recently told the outlet that she was “not in charge” of whether or not Euphoria will actually return. However, she would still be open to playing Rue again in the future.

“If it’s right for the characters and everything turns out the way it should, of course,” she said. “But it’s beyond me.”

The first two seasons of Euphoria are currently streaming on Max.
