Apple TV+‘s sci-fi comedy The Big Door Prize has another season in the books, and though Season 2’s 10 episodes answered several burning questions fans had after Season 1, they also left us with a bunch of new ones, along with a deep desire for Season 3.

When the end credits roll on Season 2’s finale, “Deercoming,” fans are left with another agonizing Morpho-related cliffhanger. What’s the deal with Dusty and the machine? Is he inside?! Who’s the mysterious figure on the other side of the glass? And what’s going on with the rest of Deerfield’s residents in his absence?

There’s no way to know what’s in store for the series without new episodes! So has Apple TV+ renewed the show — based on M.O. Walsh’s popular novel of the same name — for another season? Or has The Big Door Prize been canceled? We’ve got answers.

Here’s everything to know about the future of The Big Door Prize, its Season 3 renewal status, and potential Season 3 storylines.

Will There Be A Big Door Prize Season 3 On Apple TV+?

As of The Big Door Prize‘s Season 2 finale day on June 12, Apple TV+ had yet to cancel or renew the series for a Season 3. But that’s not to say there won’t be one! Though The Big Door Prize received an early Season 2 renewal after four episodes of Season 1 aired, it’s not uncommon for streamers to announce the fate of a series after a season wraps.

Despite the lack of official renewal, in an interview with TVInsider, The Big Door Prize creator David West Read sure sounded up for a Season 3. He even has ideas about where the story is heading!

“…There is an escalation of the intensity of what the machine is bringing to this town that feels really exciting,” Read said. “We go from these little cards with single words or phrases on them in Season 1 to these visions which are more like 32-bit retro video game technology in Season 2 to this third potential stage, which is beyond anything the characters could have imagined the machine would bring. And I think the psychological reckoning that that could lead to and the chaos and confusion create so many opportunities for drama and comedy.”

So what could a potential Season 3 look like for The Big Door Prize?

The Big Door Prize Season 2 Ending Explained: What Would The Big Door Prize Season 3 Look Like?

As Read’s comments above tease, there’s much more of The Big Door Prize‘s story to explore — primarily because of that Season 2 finale cliffhanger. A potential Season 3 would obviously have to address Dusty’s whereabouts, the next stage of the Morpho machine, and the impact it will have on him and Deerfield’s residents.

As for why Dusty is first to experience the next stage, Read told TVInsider, “Dusty goes on probably the biggest emotional rollercoaster of anyone in the show because he starts out being the most opposed to the machine, the most scared of the machine, the most anxious about the machine to, in some ways, the most obsessed with the machine in the second season. And it just felt fitting that Dusty would be the first person to enter whatever that next, next stage is, which we want to leave really open to interpretation right now.” Interesting…

Aside from the Morpho of it all, per the other loose ends in Decider’s finale recap, The Big Door Prize Season 3 would likely continue to explore Cass and Dusty’s marriage, Dusty and Alice’s potential, Hana and Father Reuben’s connection and the aftermath of their adventure to the bar, Trina and Jacob’s breakup, and — fingers crossed — a Nat and Giorgio New Year’s Eve wedding! (Plus, we want eyes on that meatball mobile. Do you hear me, Read!? I’m not playing around. The Big Door Prize productions are iconic.)

We’d ideally catch up with the rest of the show’s core residents as well. And we’d likely watch everyone take the next steps towards fulfilling their true potentials. Sounds to us like the Season 3 potential is endless, so we’ll be sure to keep you posted on updates from Apple TV+.

Until then, The Big Door Prize Season 1 and Season 2 are currently streaming on Apple TV+.
