While The View was lucky enough to get a firsthand account of Donald Trump‘s hush money trial from panelist Sunny Hostin, they got another inside scoop this morning from Rachel Maddow, who was also present in the courtroom during the historic trial.

While visiting the show as a guest this morning, Maddow gave her insight into the upcoming election and her thoughts on Trump’s conviction.

Hostin was the first to ask Maddow a question, recounting that she saw the political commentator in court for Michael Cohen’s testimony and opening statements in for the trial, which ended with a guilty verdict on all 34 felony counts for Trump.

“Why was it important for you to go, and what did you get out of it?” Hostin asked her guest.

Maddow replied that cameras aren’t allowed in the courtroom for many trials, telling The View, “With no cameras there, I wanted to see it myself.

“I also felt like a lot of the way that Trump was dealing with the trial was by trying to create this air of menace around it, like, ‘I command this legion of followers and this is a corrupt, rigged system, and unless you let me get away with crimes, all hell is gonna break loose,'” Maddow added.

When Whoopi Goldberg asked her, “Did you see all the seven people that were out there?” referring to the low turnout at the trial, Maddow replied, “There’s nobody there.”

After naming off a list of politicians who have landed in jail for their own crimes, Maddow declared, “There is nothing about being in politics that makes you less criminal. When those people get prosecuted, the system doesn’t break … our system works and we should keep it.”

Maddow said Trump is “threatening” that very system, and she wanted to witness it with her own eyes. But, she confessed, what she saw wasn’t so impressive.

“He’s just a man and there’s nobody here to support him, including his wife,” she said.

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
