Jamie Foxx is shedding more light on the “medical complication” that landed him in the hospital last year.

The actor told a group of restaurant-goers in Phoenix, Arizona that he was hospitalized after taking Advil for a headache.

“Look, April 11 last year, bad headache, asked my boy for an Advil. I was gone for 20 days,” he says with a snap of his fingers in a clip circulating on X (formerly known as Twitter). “I don’t remember anything. I’m in Atlanta, they told me … my sister and my daughter took me to the first doctor. They gave me a cortisone shot.

“The next doctor said, ‘There’s something going on up there,'” he continues, pointing to his head. “I won’t say it on camera.”

Jamie’s daughter Corinne Foxx revealed in April 2023 that her father suffered an undisclosed medical emergency and was promptly hospitalized while filming his upcoming Netflix comedy Back in Action, a movie that will mark Cameron Diaz‘s return to acting.

“Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery,” she said in her statement. “We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time.”

The following month, she announced that Jamie had been out of the hospital “for weeks” and was already back to playing pickleball.

He spoke out about his mysterious illness in July 2023, telling his followers that he “didn’t want [them] to see [him] like that.”

“I didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through,” he said, before praising his daughter and sister for saving his life. “I cannot tell you how great it feels to have your family kick in in such a way, and y’all know they kept it airtight, they didn’t let nothing out, they protected me, and that’s what I hope that everyone could have in moments like these.”

Jamie returned to filming Back in Action in January 2024, according to Entertainment Tonight. The movie will begin streaming on Netflix on Nov. 15.
