Michael Strahan‘s absence from Good Morning America continues into its second week as the former NFL player was once again replaced by a GMA correspondent. But there’s some good news: We now know when the anchor should be expected back on the air.

Strahan has been absent from the show since the week of June 24, but neither George Stephanopolous nor Robin Roberts have shared a reason for his continued absence. During Tuesday’s (July 2) broadcast, Stephanopolous and Roberts were once again joined by GMA economics correspondent Rebecca Jarvis instead of their regular co-host.

But a source familiar with the matter told DECIDER that Strahan is currently away on vacation. He is expected to be back on Good Morning America next week.

This news comes just in time as Strahan’s mysterious absence began raising questions for viewers. The longtime GMA host has become a staple on the show since joining in 2016, and fans are curious where he’s been. Here’s what we know so far.

Yes — It looks like the former NFL player isn’t going anywhere. A source confirmed to Decider that Strahan is simply taking a vacation, so no need to fear about a permanent absence from the GMA star.

Strahan has been known to take time off from the show to be with his family. The GMA host has previously taken days — or even weeks — off from the broadcast to support his 19-year-old daughter, Isabella, and his family after she was recently diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer.

As for when he’ll be back, we can confirm that Strahan will return to GMA the week of July 7.

Is Michael Strahan retiring from Good Morning America?

Amid his continued absence from air, numerous reports have pointed to a 2023 interview in which Strahan candidly spoke on his plans to one day retire from television. However, he did not specify how long he expected to continue working in television. The former footballer has already forged a successful career as a sports commentator and daytime personality with a weekly appearance on Fox NFL Sundays and a previous stint on Live alongside Kelly Ripa.

“I love my life. I enjoy my life. My kids are in college. I want to be able to go to college. I want to be able to say, ‘Hey, let’s go take a trip,’ not, ‘Oh, I’ve got to get this vacation time off,'” he said. “I want a life where there’s some freedom at some point.”

“I guarantee you this: I’ll be off TV before a lot of people [are] sick of seeing me on TV,” Strahan added.

Good Morning America airs weekdays at 7/6c on ABC.
