Savannah Chrisley Says Julie Chrisley May Suffer “Horrendous” PTSD After Prison Release: “The System Breaks People In A Matter Of Days”

Savannah Chrisley is aware of the obstacles awaiting her mother Julie Chrisley once she is free to come home from prison.

After updating her Unlocked podcast listeners on the status of her parents’ appeal — including that her mother is being resentenced — she opened up about what her mother’s release may look like for them, per People.

“When it comes to mom coming home, I know a lot of the people are going to come out of the woodworks, but I have to let her kind of process things,” she said. “There’s going to be a lot of things when she comes home that is not gonna be easy. And the PTSD that these men and women suffer from being in prison is horrendous.”

Citing the “things that they think about” and the “things they’ve witnessed” in prison, as well as “the abuse,” Savannah said she expects Julie’s release will be “really difficult,” and revealed that she and her mother have “already had the conversation” about this.

“She told me, she was like, ‘You know you can’t leave me when I come home, right?'” Savannah said. “And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ She was like, ‘I mean, I know you wanna, like, have your own life, and I want you to do that… But for the first few months, you’re gonna have to stay with me. Like, we’re gonna have to get adjusted.'”

“It broke my heart in a way to know that the system breaks people in a matter of days. Just to watch my parents become so institutionalized,” she continued, “and I say to her all the time. She’ll be like, ‘Oh, yeah, the inmates.’ I’m like, ‘No, no, no, no.’ I was like, ‘You’re not referring to yourself like that. You are a person and you’re worth more than the things that you’re saying to yourself.'”

Savannah took to Instagram June 21 to share the news of the “little win” of Julie’s resentencing, noting that she’s “a firm believer that [Julie] will be coming home sooner rather than later.” Julie had been held responsible for the entire bank fraud scheme — which began in 2006 — and appeals judges could not find sufficient evidence to prove her involvement before 2007, per Entertainment Tonight.

During her recent podcast installment, Savannah reiterated that it’s going to be “challenging for her to come home,” and said “there’s going to be lots of therapy involved.”

“Anything I can do to help her get the best space she could possibly ever be in, that’s what I’m gonna do,” she noted.

In November 2023, Savannah had updated fans that her parents, Julie and Todd Chrisley, had been granted “oral arguments” by the appeals court, which she deemed a “Thanksgiving win.” Per E! News, Savannah said on Tuesday’s podcast episode that she’s “making it [her] goal” to have her mother home by Thanksgiving.
