Another season of Trying in the books, another box of tissues in the trash.

Apple TV+‘s heartwarming dramedy aired its Season 4 finale on Wednesday, July 3, leaving fans of Andy Wolton’s beloved British series with several major cliffhangers, burning questions, and high hopes for a Season 5.

Trying’s Season 4 finale, “Scott of the Atlantic,” showed a more vulnerable side of Karen (Sian Brooke), finally revealed if Scott (Darren Boyd) set sail on his ambitious row, introduced an exciting opportunity that could shake up Jason (Rafe Spall) and Nikki’s (Esther Smith) lives, and made some serious progress in the search for Princess (Scarlett Rayner) and Tyler’s (Cooper Turner) birth mother.

But have we seen the last of these lovable characters? Or will their stories continue in the future? Curious if there will be a Trying Season 5 on Apple TV+? Wondering if Apple TV+ canceled or renewed Trying already? And want to know what could a Trying Season 5 look like? Here’s everything we know about the future of the touching Apple TV+ comedy.

Will There Be a Trying Season 5 on Apple TV+?

As of Trying‘s Season 4 finale day, July 3, Apple TV+ had yet to renew or cancel the comedy. But that’s not to say it’s the end of the road for the heartwarming series. Though the series was renewed for a fourth season ahead of its Season 3 finale, it’s common for streamers to wait a while after finales have aired to announce renewals.

With Season 4 ending on several cliffhangers, it’s clear that Trying has more story to tell. But the decision ultimately comes down to the show’s performance on Apple TV+, so we’ll have to see what the streamer decides. Until we learn more about Trying‘s future, let’s think about what a Season 5 could look like, shall we?

Trying Season 4 Ending Explained: What Could A Trying Season 5 Look Like?

Season 4, Episode 8 “Scott of the Atlantic,” kicked off with Scott prepping to row the Atlantic Ocean, then backing down after Karen got scared and begged him not to risk his life. Karen and Nikki finally made up thanks to the pressure of Scott’s launch. Princess passed her GCSE. And Tyler and Jason’s team celebrated after a big game.

The majority of the Season 4 finale felt like lighthearted, smooth sailing. But Trying shook things up in the final moments, with Jason revealing he got an offer to train to become a social worker, which would involve him taking a two-year course that would impact his and Nikki’s lives. “I would really like to say yes… I feel like I would be good at it and could really help people,” he said. So Season 5 would definitely explore that decision more.

In another twist, Karen noticed that she had several missed calls from Freddy (Oliver Chris), aka Coach of the Atlantic, but before she could return them, Freddy frantically showed up at Jason and Nikki’s door and said, “I need to speak to Karen — It’s Scott!” Trying cut to Scott on the water and revealed he decided to row the Atlantic after all. That means we absolutely need a Season 5 to find out his fate!

And finally, with minutes left in the season, Princess grabbed Nikki’s phone and started scrolling through photos from her trip to Mexico. She saw her drinking, snorkeling, and having a suspiciously good time for someone who was supposed to be on the hunt for her birth mom, Kat Reid. As Nikki headed to the door to greet Freddy, Princess found a new photo of Kat on Nikki’s phone and realized that the two met in real life after all. A Season 5 would likely show Princess confronting Nikki about her lie and demanding the truth about her mom…but the conversation would undoubtedly be overshadowed by the fact that Kat showed up in the flesh!

That’s right! In the finale’s final scene, Freddy headed inside Nikki and Jason’s house to find Karen and Nikki was left standing in the doorway looking straight at Kat, who was standing across the street wearing a giant backpack.

Is she here to stay? Is she ready to be in Princess and Tyler’s lives again? These are the questions we need answered in Season 5. And, crucially, WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR BOY SCOTT.
