Dawn Hollyoak, a star contestant in the 2022 season of The Great British Bake Off, has died at age 61.
Hollyoak’s family revealed the news to the baking community on the star’s Instagram on Friday, writing, “💔It’s with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our star 🌟 baker Dawn.”
The post continued, “Not only a wonderfully talented baker but first and foremost an amazing mother, grandmother, wife and friend. Dawn passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. We will miss her forever, but promise to continue her baking legacy!”
The post concluded with a simple “🤍” emoji.
Fans and friends flooded the comment section to share their love and support for the family.
Paul Hollywood, a judge on GBBO, commented, “I’m so sorry to hear that, send my love to the family 😢 a lovely lady x.”
The official account of the show shared their condolences for the beloved contestant as well.
“We’re so sorry to hear this news,” they shared. “Thinking of your family and sending lots of love. xx.”
Contestants across multiple seasons of GBBO came together to share their love for Hollyoak.
“Such a kind hearted and talented lady,” 2021 finalist Crystelle Pereira wrote. “Praying for her and all her friends and her family, may she rest in perfect peace ❤️🙏🕊️”
“Heartbroken to hear this,” commented Josh Smalley, a 2023 finalist on the show. “Dawn was so wonderfully talented and had a smile to brighten anyone’s day. Thinking of her family and sending all the love. She’ll be baking up a storm up there❤️🕊️X.”
Carole Edwards, Hollyoak’s good friend and co-contestant on Season 13 of the show, posted her own tribute to the GBBO alum.
“This is my tribute to @thebakerdawn , my dear friend, and my cake guru, always there to help and listen, we were the same age, so we had a lot in common (Donny Osmond being one of them 😁),” Edwards wrote in the caption under the reel. “Never to be forgotten, the journey on GBBO brought us together, fly high my darling, the angels won’t be short of a bake or two now.”
Hollyoak competed on Season 13 of the show, and was eliminated from the competition during Halloween Week, per People.
Following her departure from the show, she said, “I really don’t want to share tears over it because it’s been the most amazing experience,” per BBC.
Hollyoak’s cause of death has yet to be revealed. She is survived by her three children, two step-children and four grandchildren.
