‘The Garfield Movie’ Comes To Digital, But When Will the 2024 ‘Garfield’ Movie Stream on Netflix?

We know Garfield hates Mondays, but this Monday comes with some news that is sure to cheer that lazy cat up: The Garfield Movie will be available to buy and rent on digital platforms tomorrow.

Based on the Garfield comic strip created by Jim Davis, this 2024 animated movie is the third Garfield movie to be released in theaters. (The first two films, Garfield: The Movie and Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, were “live-action” and starred Bill Murray as the voice of the eponymous orange cat.) In the new Garfield movie, Chris Pratt voices the wise-cracking kitty, while Nicholas Hoult voices Jon Arbuckle, Garfield’s owner. The star-studded voice cast also includes Harvey Guillén as Odie, Samuel L. Jackson as Garfield’s father, and Hannah Waddingham as a Persian cat named Jinx. Additional voice cast includes Ving Rhames, Cecily Strong, Brett Goldstein, Bowen Yang, and Snoop Dogg.

The Garfield Movie opened in theaters in May, and was a box office success, earning over $244.8 million worldwide.  Maybe that’s why Sony opted to keep the movie in theaters for two months, rather than the one-month theatrical run is the new norm for most major studios.

But before you buy or rent The Garfield Movie on digital, you should know that—because it is a Sony movie—The Garfield Movie will likely be on Netflix very soon. Here’s what to know about The Garfield Movie digital release, including where to watch The Garfield Movie on streaming, and when The Garfield Movie will be on Netflix.

How to watch The Garfield Movie on streaming:

Beginning on Tuesday, July 9, The Garfield Movie will be available to buy and rent digitally on Amazon Prime, Google Play, Apple TV, Vudu, and more. The price may vary depending on which platform you use to purchase the film, but on Amazon Prime the movie will cost $19.99 to rent, and $24.99 to buy. If you rent the movie, you will have a 48-hour window to watch it after you hit “play.”

If you buy a digital copy of The Garfield Movie, you’ll also get some with bonus features with your purchase, including a gag reel; a deleted scene titled “‘I’m Back’ Animatic, featuring Hannah Waddingham;” and Easter Eggs:  Garnishes à la Garfield. Other bonus features include the following extras: Indoor Cat, Outdoor Adventure; Cast of Critters; How to Draw’s; Concept Arts; and Animation Progression Reel.

The Garfield Movie DVD release date has not yet been announced.

When will The Garfield Movie be streaming on Netflix?

The Garfield Movie will likely be on Netflix sometime this fall. Netflix has a deal with Sony Pictures that gives the streamer the rights to the Sony movies in the “Pay 1” window, meaning the first streaming window after the film’s home media release. Other recent Sony movies, including The Pope’s Exorcist and No Hard Feelings came to Netflix about four months after opening in theaters. Madame Web, however, came to Netflix just three months after it opened in theaters. Sony’s most recent movie, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, is coming to Netflix on July 22—about four months after the movie opened in theaters.

If The Garfield Movie follows this same release pattern, you can expect The Garfield Movie to stream on Netflix around September 2024 (three months after the movie opened in theaters) or October 2024 (four months after the movie opened in theaters).
