George Clooney‘s controversial call for Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential race caused quite a stir at the Hot Topics table on this morning’s episode of The View, where co-hosts Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin shunned the actor for airing his grievances with the POTUS publicly.

Clooney wrote in his New York Times op-ed that Biden “was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010” or even “the Joe Biden of 2020” when they both attended a recent fundraiser for the Democratic nominee’s campaign.

“Couldn’t he tell him that in person, for God’s sake? He has to write an op-ed piece?” Behar questioned at the top of today’s broadcast of The View.

Clooney went on to express his concerns about Biden’s age and ability to beat Donald Trump in the piece, writing that Democrats are “not going to win in November with this president.”

But, according to Behar, Clooney and other high-profile Democrats calling for Biden to step aside don’t “understand what’s at stake yet.” She pointed out that a “convicted felon” (Trump) is neck and neck with “a man who actually saved the economy” (Biden).

“Why doesn’t George Clooney mention that in his op-ed piece? I’m mad at George Clooney right now — even though we dated,” she joked. “I wish.”

Hostin, who suggested Vice President Kamala Harris as an adequate replacement for Biden, agreed with Behar that Clooney shouldn’t have gone so public with his frustrations.

“I don’t like that George Clooney did this. I don’t like that George Clooney aired this dirty laundry to the world,” she said. “I think that these conversations are happening. I think that they should be happening because our democracy is at stake.”

“But they should be happening privately with the commander in chief, who we should have the utmost respect for,” she continued. “This is the man who saved the soul of our country and this is the man who has a record that he can stand on.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin, the other hand, disagreed with both of her co-hosts, declaring that Biden’s “feelings don’t matter more than our country.”

“These are Democrats, lifelong, who want to defeat Donald Trump and who know how to win races, saying that Joe Biden cannot win as things are going,” she said, referring to the calls for Biden to drop out. “These are people who want to see Donald Trump defeated. They are not doing this for fun or for sport.”
