The View got heated during what seemed to be a rather innocuous topic, but quickly proved to strike a nerve with nearly everyone at the Hot Topics table.

Joy Behar kicked off the discussion about a man who posted on Reddit about issues he’s having with his girlfriend, who quit her job to pursue a comedy career at 28 years old. Without her steady income, he said that their finances are not as stable and he now wants her to get a “real job.”

Behar told the panel, “Nothing turns a woman off like being told she’s a failure. Does he ever expect to have sex again with her?”

But not everyone was on her side — Alyssa Farah Griffin admitted she was “taking the under” by “defending the boyfriend,” but argued that the Reddit post notes the woman is “sleeping ’till noon,” which prompted Sara Haines to say, “She works three days a week for four hours as a driver, which is fine, but if you’re in the hustle mode of a dream, you are working every day for long days.”

As Sunny Hostin suggested the 28-year-old could be working on material in her free time, Haines doubled down, firing back, “You don’t get the luxury of that. Who pays the rent?” while Griffin reminded her, “She’s sleeping ’till noon.”

Hostin assured the panel she’s not a “dream killer,” but Haines, crossing her arms, quipped, “If she’s working four hours a day, I’m gonna kill her dreams.”

Haines then shared her own experience arriving in New York and working as a page, a job that paid her $10 per hour, while she was following her dream of acting.

“It was almost 12-hour days, six days a week, and I had to then learn the craft and pay for those classes at nighttime and on the weekends around that, because there was no way to have the dream,” Haines said. “No one was paying my rent.”

Later, when Behar told the panel that the woman mentioned in the Reddit post “has some kind of talent,” Griffin shadily noted, “She’s never made a dollar on comedy,” but Behar forged on, defending “artists” who need time and relaxation to succeed.

This truly pushed Haines over the edge. Putting her hands to her head, she exclaimed, “You guys, seriously! Oh my god, my dad would fall over right now. Who’s paying the bills? She’s 28, she’s not 15.”

After Hostin recalled how her husband supported her when she had the opportunity to join CNN in a role with a smaller salary, her co-hosts applauded her, with Haines saying, “You’re a hustler, Sunny!” and Griffin pointing out, “You didn’t sleep ’till noon.”

But Behar wasn’t on board.

“Sometimes you need help,” she said, before declaring, “I’m sorry, I disagree with all of you.”

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
