Netflix is saying out with the old and in with the new this month. Don’t want to miss out? Make sure to check out what’s leaving now before you tune in to all of the new titles.

What else will Netflix subscribers have to say goodbye to in July? Here’s everything you need to know about what movies and shows are leaving Netflix in July 2024!

Why Does Netflix Remove Movies and Shows?

It’s complicated, but here’s our best shot at explaining why this happens: Netflix has spent tens of billions of dollars since its inception to build up their library of shows and movies that they own either outright or control for a long stretch of time, commonly known as Netflix Originals. Everything else on the service has been licensed from another studio or production company, some of whose business interests align with Netflix, and some of whose compete directly with Netflix. As the tectonic plates of the streaming industry continue to shift, Netflix is either gaining or losing the rights to house these movies and shows on their service. Once a month, Netflix sends out a list of everything that is going to expire from their service so their customers can plan accordingly.

Will Smith’s portrayal of Richard Williams, the father of tennis pros Venus and Serena Williams, earned him Best Actor at the 2022 Oscars — preceded by him infamously slapping host Chris Rock on stage. Fortunately, for those who miss this powerful biopic on Netflix, you can catch King Richard on Max, where it is currently streaming, as well.

Also leaving Netflix at the end of July is Shrek, which has sustained itself as a fan favorite since its 2001 debut. Eddie Murphy, who lends his voice to Donkey, recently told Collider that another Shrek film is in the works, and that Donkey is even getting his own spin-off movie!
