New Ghostbusters film is inspired by The Walking Dead

Director Paul Feig has talked in the past about how his vision for the new all-female Ghostbusters film is a scarier take than the originals. On Sunday evening, the Bridesmaids director was a guest on AMC’sWalking Dead recap show Talking Dead, where he revealed that he’ll bring inspiration from the zombie show to the ghost busting film.

“I will say, I was very inspired by this show,” Feig said when asked what connection the Ghostbusters might have to zombies. He specified, adding, “What I love is how they play with the danger, they play with the scariness, but also the idea that it’s always about gauntlet run. And that’s something, an element I want to bring to this Ghostbusters reboot is having to get through these various obstacles that are supernatural and all that. I really feed off of The Walking Dead.”

So while we probably shouldn’t expect to see Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones fending off flesh eaters in the upcoming movie, high tension and constant threats sound like they’ll be part of the experience. Of course, given the franchise’s history and Feig’s directorial resumé (The HeatThe Office), the film won’t be devoid of laughs, either.
