Already moved from tonight’s original launch date to July 26, USA’s Shooter now will be premiering even later than expected, the cable network said today.
“After further consideration, USA Network, Paramount TV and Universal Cable Productions have decided to move the premiere of Shooter to the fall,” the NBCUniversal-owned cabler said. No word on exactly when that premiere will be, but the launch of the Ryan Phillippe-starring show based on the 2007 Mark Wahlberg movie could come even after the presidential election.
With the fatal police shootings in Baton Rouge this weekend, a similar incident in Dallas on July 7 plus the highly charged White House race, sources say it was “just not the right time” to debut Shooter. As other outlets have done in the past when attacks have occurred, USA last week postponed the original July 19 premiere to next Monday after five Dallas police officers were killed and more injured by a sniper attack a week and a half ago.
On Shooter, Phillippe portrays former Marine Bob Lee Swagger, who is convinced to come out of self-imposed exile with his family by his former commanding officer and now top Secret Service agent Isaac Johnson (Omar Epps). The reason for getting Swagger back in the world is to help stop a potential Presidential assassination. Events soon see Swagger on the run as factions within the government try to silence him.
Wahlberg, John Hlavin, Stephen Levinson and Lorenzo di Bonaventura serve as executive producers.
