Amazon has snapped up UK and European rights to two of Disney’s latest series, Marvel youth drama Cloak & Dagger and supernatural refugee drama The Crossing.
The SVOD service has struck a deal with Disney Media Distribution for the two series, which launched at last May’s LA Screenings. It has acquired The Crossing in the UK and Ireland, where it will launch on April 3, and Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Austria, where it will premiere on April 27. It has also scored deals for Cloak & Dagger in UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and Italy and will air a day after its U.S. premiere in June.
Cloak & Dagger tells the story of two teenagers from very different backgrounds who find themselves burdened and awakened by their new powers. It is produced by ABC Signature and Marvel Television for youth-skewing broadcaster Freeform. Based on the Marvel comic, it was created by Heroes writer Joe Pokaski.
The Crossing, which is produced by ABC Studios, tells the story of a group of refugees from a war-torn country 250 years in the future who seek asylum in an American town. It stars Steve Zahn as Sheriff Jude Ellis, alongside Natalie Martinex and Sandrine Holt.
“This marks another step forward in bringing best-in-class TV shows to Prime Video customers in Europe,” says Jay Marine, VP Prime Video EU. “We are thrilled to be bringing Marvel’s next hugely anticipated TV series exclusively to Prime Video and we look forward to hearing the reaction from Marvel fans and newcomers to the iconic entertainment series alike as they discover the universe of Cloak & Dagger. The Crossing is a timely addition to Prime Video and we’re expecting customers to find much to love about this enigmatic show.”
