Netflix has teamed up with the BBC for a competition format set in the world of interior design. The SVOD service and the British public broadcaster are launching Project Interiors (w/t) from Endemol Shine’s Darlow Smithson Productions (DSP).
The eight-part Bake Off-for-design series will see ten fledgling interior design stylists compete to win a life-changing design contract with a prestigious commercial client.
Across eight weeks, the designers will face eight different challenges where they must confront a new space to transform as they attempt to work their magic and show off their skills.
The designers will be working in teams, although they will be striving for a single prize, and they must revamp a wide range of different properties, from redesigning real businesses to reinventing family homes. They will have to manage fellow designers, a team of tradesmen and demanding clients, and at the same time work to exacting specifications and testing briefs. One designer will be eliminated each week ahead of the final.
The series will air on BBC Two in the UK and Netflix around the world. It was commissioned by Patrick Holland, Controller BBC Two, David Brindley, Head Popular Factual and Factual Entertainment and BBC Commissioning Editor Catherine Catton. It is series Producer by Nicky Hammond and executive produced by Donna Clark and Claire Walls.
Project Interiors is Netflix’s latest entry into the world of home design; as Deadline revealed, the SVOD service ordered its first home makeover series, Amazing On The Inside (w/t) from British production company Barcroft Productions, earlier this year. The 12-part series, with episodes lasting 30 minutes, will uncover homes that hide an incredible secret and will look behind the ordinary, conventional or unassuming exteriors that are passion projects for their owners, who have transformed their living space to reflect their passions, dreams and identity.
