Jennifer Lawrence got a savagely comic note from Amy Schumer after her breakup

Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer have become close friends over the years. We know this because the Red Sparrow star was invited to Schumer’s wedding and the pair are not above slinging friendly barbs at each other. Case in point, Schumer’s response to Lawrence’s breakup with mother! director Darren Aronoskfy.

The filmmaker started dating the star of his film shortly after production ended, but they split two months after mother! opened in theaters.

“When Darren and I first broke up. I told [Schumer] and I was really sad,” Lawrence said on Watch What Happens Live to host Andy Cohen. “The next day I got a bouquet of flowers delivered and I said, ‘What is this?’” she added. “I bring the bouquet of flowers in and there was a note that says, ‘I’m so sorry to hear you’re gonna die alone. Love, Amy.’”

This seems to jive with Lawrence’s sense of humor.

The actress had previously told Stephen Colbert how Schumer wanted a private moment with Lawrence after her wedding to chef Chris Fischer. While the comedian was talking about “life and love and this giant decision that she just made,” Lawrence interrupts with, “Amy, every minute that I’m here Larry could be leaving” — noting her obsession with Larry David.

On a more serious note, Lawrence told Entertainment Tonight that Fischer’s vows “were stunning. It’s when two people really love each other and they really mean it, it shows, and it was a beautiful ceremony and an amazing time. I couldn’t be happier for them.”

The Oscar winner is still feeling pangs from her breakup, telling Marc Maron on his WTF podcast, “I still love him very much.” But she’s always got Schumer.

In addition to palling around, the duo are working on a movie together where they play “dysfunctional twins.” Lawrence revealed in August that they were “meeting with directors.”

“She’s the funniest person I’ve ever met,” Lawrence said of Schumer. “She’s also an amazing dramatic actress, which I want to bring out.”
