Gaza: At least 29 killed in attack on school
Gaza - July 11, 2024 At least 29 people were killed and dozens more injured in an Israeli attack on a school sheltering displaced people in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, Hamas officials in the enclave said today. The Palestine Red Crescent Society confirmed that dozens of people were affected after an attack on a school in the Abbasan area east of Khan Younis and that its teams are transporting the wounded to two local hospitals, but gave no figures for the number of dead or wounded. The Hamas government in Gaza said most of the victims are women and children, and stressed that "this massacre came after the occupation committed six others in the central camps, bringing the number of martyrs to 60 in the last few hours," according to a statement from the Islamist group's media office. Khan Younis is home to many of those displaced by the ground invasion of Rafah, the southernmost town in the Strip, where Israeli troops entered in early May and have been operating ever since.
