LOS ANGELES -- Now there's a way to swipe right on what to stream.
MightyTV -- a new app launched by an ex-Google employee on Wednesday -- is a personalized video discovery app that gives consumers the ability to "swipe away the frustration of what to watch next."
Using algorithms, the app helps users match with new content to stream based on their personal taste, as well as their friends' tastes.
"The ecosystem needs a better way to do discovery and personalization," Brian Adams, co-founder and CEO of MightyTV, told Mashable.
The idea is to help users "search less and watch more stuff you'll love."
If the swipe style sounds familiar, that's because it was inspired by popular dating apps like Tinder.
"The Tinder model of making a single choice at a time is fun to use and enables us to offer a fully dynamic experience for the user," Adams added.
With so many OTT offerings available in the marketplace -- including Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, HBO and YouTube -- the app aims to help consumers browse through all their accounts, see what’s free and what costs money, and then find what they are looking for instantly.
Adams, who cofounded the app with longtime friend and media technology entrepreneur Bryan Slavin, said he came up with the idea after streaming OTT on the first Roku.
"I loved the freedom of being able to watch anything that was available, but that freedom came at the cost of having to sort through the various video catalogs by hand myself," he said. "Things got more complicated when I wanted to find something together with my wife. Simplifying that discovery process and making it fun was a key part of the founding of the company."
