Tabblo’s last day: May 30

Thursday 24 May 2012This is more than 12 years old. Be careful.

HP has announced the date of Tabblo’s shutdown: May 30, next week. It’s sad, but it’s better than continuing to let it rot on the vine.

I’ve enhanced my Tabblo Lifeboat downloader, it’s faster and more robust, and gets a little bit more information from Tabblo.

If you have stuff on Tabblo that you want to keep, get it now. If you need help, let me know.

Hello,
I am an American living in Denmark and had been using Tabblo for creating online posters which I included in my galleries - now I saw today that it is all gone!
You said that you might be able to help me retrive some of the posters created . (I think about 80 of them....).
I am using windows 7 - and have no other operating systems . . but a bit of computer knowledge gained whilst working for IBM in Denmark.

Any tips you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

Best regards
Len

Hello Ned,
I just tried Lifeboat, and received the following:
Downloading tabblos by user lencan. This could take a long time. If it fails for some reason, just start it again, it will pick up where it left off.

Logging in: https://www.tabblo.com/studio/login/?s=1

HTTP Error 405: Not Allowed

Done

Am I too late and the lifeboat has sailed for the last time???

@Len, I'm sorry to say it is too late. The site is shut down, there is no easy way to access your tabblos. The Internet Archive has copies of tabblos at http://archive.org/search.php?query=tabblo , but it is by number, not name, so it isn't easy to find yours, and they will only have public one.

Hello Ned,
Is there any way to present the archives in ascending or descending order??
The archives seem to be presented randomly so it is very difficult to find number 37300, for example

Len, I had nothing to do with the Internet Archive download project, but the URLs follow a pattern: 37300 would be at http://archive.org/download/archiveteam-tabblo-37/tabblo-00037300.zip , though it seems not to exist.

Hi, everyone, sorry for the delay getting back to you.

Archive Team has set up a way to see if we got a copy of your files:

http://ia601202.us.archive.org/3/items/test-memac-index-test/tabblo.html

Go to that, type in your username, and any public-facing photos will be there.

Wow, Jason, I am impressed! First that you downloaded the public tabblos, and now to index them by username! You just won the internet (again)!

Thanks Ned -
I was able to locate my Tabblo posters. Great!
My appreciation to both you and those at Archive.org

But not all is as it should be....
so I wrote this to HP's forum:

Yes the people at archive.org have done all that could to save a lot of people from a lot of grief - but unfortuanately, the zip files which Tabblo created for them in those last panic moments of Tabblo's life were not quite what they should be - in may cases files were missing from both the "original" and "photos" directories.

HP should have made a "clean" closing of their application if they wanted satisfied customers in the future.

Thank you for all the hardwork...

Question to you and Ned, I am able to download and save the individual photos but not the tabloo poster, is there a way to also still save the poster itself?

Thank you and the IA for the recovery. We didn't realise Tabblo had gone dark until far, far too late. I chanced on this thread when looking for a 'new' Tabblo, although it seems one isn't to be found. What a wonderfully altruistic thing to do.

In response to the last poster, download the ZIP file, then extract it, the index.html will make it all come up as you designed it.

Hi Ned,

Thank you so much for this! I only realised that Tabblo was gone last night when I didn't see the thumbnail screen shots of my albums in my blog. Went into panic mode for a while as I thought I've lost all of my albums and pictures forever. Some of the copies were lost forever when my external hard drive was stolen 2 years ago.

I am really grateful for what you have done.
