Matthew Perry will be there for James Burrows at next month’s NBC special honoring the prolific sitcom director.
NBC on Wednesday officially confirmed that Friends‘ stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer will reunite at next month’s two-hour event, Must See TV: A Tribute to James Burrows. Perry, who is currently doing a play in London, will also be on hand, although via a pre-taped segment. (Hey, it’s something!)
The special, which will tape this weekend and air Sunday, Feb. 21 at 9/8c, will also bring together the casts of classic Burrows-helmed sitcoms Cheers (Ted Danson, Shelley Long, Bebe Neuwirth, Rhea Perlman, John Ratzenberger and George Wendt are confirmed to appear), Frasier (Peri Gilpin, Jane Leeves and David Hyde Pierce), Will & Grace (Sean Hayes, Eric McCormack, Debra Messing and Megan Mullally), Taxi (Tony Danza, Danny DeVito, Marilu Henner, Judd Hirsch, Carol Kane and Christopher Lloyd) and The Big Bang Theory (Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg and Jim Parsons).
Watercooler moment alert: Ex-Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen will take the stage with his former co-star Jon Cryer.
The special will mark Burrows’ 1,000th episode of TV with his new NBC comedy Crowded.
“There is nobody with better TV comedy instincts than Jimmy Burrows, and because of his guiding hand these remarkable shows will be forever celebrated and stand the test of time,” said Paul Telegdy, President, Alternative and Late Night Programming, NBC Entertainment, in a statement. “The caliber of talent joining us to celebrate Jimmy’s accomplishments is a testament to his imprint in television history.”
At least you guys stopped calling it a friends reunion special
Actually they just called it a “cast reunion”, but i saw other sights be more misleading for sure
I didn’t know Burrows directed an episode of two and a half men
Yes!! Hey, Friends reunion is cool but WAY more excited for the Frasier reunion. Too bad they couldn’t get everyone. But you have to admit, this is crazy good list of people they got all together.
You’re absolutely right!
Sounds like something I will watch. I guess the only complete in person cast is “Will and Grace” and complete still living cast is ‘Taxi” I read on Deadline that Kelsey Grammer , Woody Harrelson, and Kirstie Alley will also appear in pretaped segments.
I’m confused to what this is. Will it be the six actors talking about the director and paying tribute to him, or will they be acting in character?
I’m reasonably sure they’ll be reminiscing about their time on set with him as a director. Other casts will be included as well.
I would assume the show will consist mostly of clips from shows directed by Burrows with the casts paying tribute to him.
How Efron of him
lol I remember now 17 Again (Efron’s and Perry’s movie).
But I think its Efron pulling a Perry, Perry’s tape involment was known before Efron’s…I think
As Kelsey Grammer’s excuse is…..?
He has a job.
Just because he hasn’t confirmed yet doesn’t mean he won’t be there.
…or record something, as Matthew is.
He’s in a play on Broadway and can’t get the time off to be in Los Angeles..
‘Crowded’ still has no premier date as of 1/20.
Does it air on the free over the air channel? What would be the air time in Denver – MST?
Super EXCITED ABOUT THIS!Wondering where Woody HARRELSON, KELSEY GRAMMAR OR KIRSTIE ALLEY are going to be that night but still looking forward to it!
Love seeing people being excited for a reunion other than Friends. Not that it’s not an important reunion in itself, but this special is filled with great reunions. I, for one, am excited for the Cheers one.
Are they going to do a Real “Friends” reunion show?
That’s what I’d like to see. Imagine Monica and Chandler as parents of teens! Ross and Rachel married with baby Emma all grown up, Joey and his crazy life. How it could all change but remain just as funny as the original. Do a reunion
