Jane Villanueva is still a mom in Season 4… but her son Mateo looks a little different.
In the new Season 4 poster for The CW‘s Jane the Virgin, we see star Gina Rodriguez paired up with a new face: Elias Janssen, who’ll play Jane’s son Mateo in the new season, debuting Friday, Oct. 13 at 9/8c. (Sources tell TVLine that Joseph Sanders, the young actor who played Mateo last season, is busy with school.) Jane looks a little overwhelmed in the poster, with a grinning Mateo sitting on her shoulders and a tagline that reads: “Relationship status: It’s mom-plicated.”

We already know Jane’s love life is going to get even more “mom-plicated” with the arrival of Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey as Jane’s first love Adam, who reentered Jane’s life out of the blue in last season’s finale. The CW has also released a few first-look photos from Season 4, which show Jane and Adam romantically lounging together with a bottle of wine and Adam seductively strumming an acoustic guitar. Hmmm… could Adam end up being the man to mend Jane’s broken heart, post-Michael?

Awww, I loved the old Mattelio, he was so freaking cute and absolutely adorable, instantly put a smile on your face, I have nothing against this kid but boy, this is a huge disappointment.
Agreed! His chemistry with Rogelio was just amazing! I trust the showrunners, and so I’m sure this kid is great, but I’m really bummed.
I’m sad to see the old Mateo go, but I wish him the best in school. I’m sure new Mateo will fit right in. I’m just happy the show will be back in a month.
I love how they’ve updated the logo to reflect that she’s no longer a virgin (like they’ve been doing with the title card last season).

I loved the other actor who played Mateo but this actor looks a lot more like he could Jane and Rafael’s son. For sure.

That’s the same kid who played young Rafael in Chapter Fifty One. I’m going to miss JS, he was an amazing Mateo, but I’m willing to give Mateo 2.0 a chance.

Just realized that Jane’s dead husband, ex-first love and Mateo’s dad’ names (Michael, Adam, Raphael respectively) are all biblical-related. Coincidence?
What happed to Mateo’s curly hair!?! I mean I know you got a new Mateo but shouldn’t he have curly hair? That kinda sucks, I mean I guess it’s a new year and the last Mateo should be older (plus he shouldn’t work too hard.) I’m going to miss him he was perfect for the role and looked just like Jane and Raphael.
The new Mateo is soooo adorable! Puts a smile in my face every time I see him act. So cute and perfect for the show. Old Mateo didn’t really look like Jane nor Rafael :/
