Warning: The following contains spoilers for Part 4 of “Crisis on Earth-X.”
Tuesday’s Arrowverse crossover conclusion attempted to make up for Part 1’s derailed wedding day with not one, but two newly hitched couples — but was the impromptu ceremony all that you hoped it would be?
While parting ways with the Danvers sisters, Iris reveals that in lieu of a big redo, she and Barry are just going to find a Justice of the Peace and and “get it done, quick and simple.” (While maybe not the most romantic plan, it does involve zero Earth-X Nazis.) Felicity then suggests that they could make it a little more personal by having someone they know officiate: Diggle, who got ordained to marry his brother and Carly. After getting a ride to Central City via Barry — and failing to not throw up — Dig turns it over to the betrothed couple to exchange vows.
“I tried to write mine, but then I realized that I didn’t need to,” Barry begins. “My entire life has been marked by two things. The first one is change. From when I was a kid to when I was an adult, things were always changing. But no matter how different things became or what new challenges I had to face, I always had the other thing that my life was marked by. That’s you. You’ve always been there, as a friend, as a partner, as the love of my life. You’re my home, Iris, and that’s one thing that will never change.”
“That was really nice,” Iris responds with a nervous laugh before reading her hand-written vows. “When I was nine years old, I wanted to be a ballerina, remember, even though I was not a very good dancer. The day of the recital, I froze. I couldn’t move. And I wanted to die. Then I looked into the audience, and I saw you. You got up, and climbed up on the stage, and you did that whole routine with me. And we killed it! I mean, we brought the house down. And from that moment, I knew that with you by my side, anything was possible. The Flash may be the city’s hero, but you, Barry Allen, you’re my hero, and I am happy, excited and honored to be your wife,” she finishes with tears in her eyes.
Just as Dig is about to pronounce the pair husband and wife, Felicity interrupts and asks Oliver if he will marry her. While she still doesn’t believe in marriage, “I believe in you,” she tells her beau, “and I believe that no matter what life throws at us, our love can conquer it, married or unmarried. I love you. My greatest fear in life is losing you.” Oliver’s response is short but sweet: “Yes! I do.”
Oliver and Felicity forgo vows – “We can’t do better than them,” he explains – but he does echo his sentiments from the couple’s fake wedding in Season 4. “I remember saying something along the lines of, ‘You’re the very best part of me. Felicity, I’m a better human being just because I’ve loved you,'” Oliver improvs (because that’s not exactly what he said, but it’s still sweet).
With that, the two couples became two happily married couples — but were you satisfied with the low-key nuptials? In addition to Oliver and Felicity strangely deciding not to exchange vows, most of the foursome’s friends and family were MIA, which was a little bit of a bummer. (Donna Smoak is not going to be happy.)
Also missing out: The mysterious waitress (played by Secret Circle‘s Jessica Parker Kennedy) who made quite an impression on viewers during Barry and Iris’ church ceremony, thanks to her striking resemblance to the bride and groom. Although she didn’t resurface during Parts 2-4, we will see the character again, TVLine has confirmed.
What did you think of the double wedding? And how do you think Kennedy will resurface? Grade the crossover, then hit the comments with your theories!
I guess Oliver and Felicity are going to have to scramble for a license now. I’m glad that the waitress will show back up, otherwise that would be a huge dropped ball.
Do you happen to know if the nazirider was voiced by Susannah Thompson because it sounded like her.
That’s the buzz, yes. –Mgmt.
Well….that was pretty awful.
I’ll definitely miss Victor Garber.
Would have liked to have seen Victor exit the series without being killed off, but they gave him a good sendoff. And if the Broadway run ends early, who knows? Nobody stays dead on a CW superhero show.
I only watch Supergirl, so I didn’t know that character or his buddy. Didn’t stop me from sobbing like a baby when he died, though.
Well that is one way to tick off mostly everyone else. Stein’s funeral should have been the end instead you have WestAllen wedding which right after is off but whatever.
Then you have felicity doing one of the biggest social no-no in not only interrupting but making WestAllen day about her and Oliver who both come off as selfish self-centered couple of the DCTV universe.
Good writing.
Dont you know it is always about Olicity. But i really disliked the ending in what was a very good crossover.
You do realize that Barry and Iris probably wouldn’t have even gotten married that day had Felicity not suggested Diggle perform the ceremony, right?
Felicity giving them the Dig idea doesn’t give her the right to interrupt their moment. Kind gestures shouldn’t have strings.
Felicity is the world’s worst friend and that double wedding was trash. They stomped all over Barry and Iris’s moment! That was awful, who came up with that idea? You couldn’t even see them kiss (and they barely EVER let them kiss as it is). I feel robbed. Why didn’t the just have the Nazis crash the reception, since the rest of the crossover completely shafted Barry and Iris anyway.
I agree! Jeez, every scene felicity was in she couldn’t shut up about her and Oliver. It was always about her her her. I was so mad when she interrupted the wedding. I have been waiting all year for the WestAllen wedding and she ruined it!! I hate being so negative about a tv character but she’s just the worst.
Thats how I feel about Iris all.the.time. Is that how the CW thinks it’s writing good, strong and independent women? By them making everything about them? Cuz… no….
Awww, stop whining, all of you guys. Those of you who don’t like Felicity, or who don’t like Iris, need to chill, the Crossover was great! The storyline was great! The characters were great! And to top it off, we get back Captain Cold (or Citizen Cold, whatever he calls himself) at least for a little while! Not everyone is going to like everything all of the time, as the song goes “you can’t please everyone”. Think about the things you do like, and enjoy the shows.
I agree with you completely. It’s nice to read a reasonable comment. Great crossover. All the characters were wonderful. They all work together so well.
I do like both those characters, but I was really annoyed at Felicity in that moment. Couldn’t she have waited until AFTER Barry and Iris finished (like 10 seconds), then asked Dig to do them too? It was very rude to interrupt right that moment.
I know this is way late but I agree with this. I love both gals and both couples and was excited about a double wedding but when I saw where she interjected, I was like just wait 10 seconds for them to finish then do you. I mean I could care less but I was like well that’s going to add more fuel to the felicity haters haha! Oh well it’s just a tv show and Im glad both characters are married and hopefully the next time they see each other on the show it will be civil ha.
Thank you. The crossover was awesome.
Gross of Felicity to hijack Barry and Iris’ moment like that. I hated the double wedding idea when I heard about it in the spoilers, it was even worse having to watch it on screen. Westallen better have a nice honeymoon to make up for this mess. Oliver and Felicity had a 2-season head start but they couldn’t get it together themselves so they crashed their friends moment instead. Sucky ending.
I agree. After waiting YEARS for this wedding, I’m a little disappointed with how it was done. Plus, since Oliver and Felicity didn’t have a current marriage license, their wedding wouldn’t really be legal…right? If there isn’t an upcoming episode where they get “remarried” to make it legit, Arrow fans need to call foul. That said. I LOVED the crossover, especially the first half; keep them coming.
The crossover was amazing, action-packed, emotional and sad. Everyone did an awesome job. How will they top this crossover?
Barry’s non-vows seem like they were written in advance to me!
I kind hope that when Jessica Parker Kennedy returns its not on Flash, but on Legends just because I think it could be a fun cool scene if Zari took her back in time to the wedding.
I loved the whole thing, but I have a quick question (potential plot hole?): if the primary (sole?) reason for the Earth-X doppelgängers coming to Earth-1 was to kidnap Supergirl and take her heart, how did they know she’d be there? She’s from Earth-38. Wouldn’t they have gone there looking for her?
Evil Kara said that they had been watching all of them. Evil Oliver used the wedding as an opportunity because they were all together and the others could be used as leverage. Probably not his best idea.
We do not know if the other 52 Karas are on earth, Krypton or a different planet altogether
That works. I figured maybe they threw in a dialog line or two to cover the hole and I just missed it.
I don’t even try to keep track of those other Earths nor how many of them there are supposed to be nor how many doppelgangers of every character there are from each one of them, it would drive me nuts trying to do that. I just enjoy the shows, and go with the flow. It’s a tv show~!
Maybe they did go the Earth-38 first and followed her to Earth-1 when they found out she had left? For the plot, it’s always easier to find a reason to bring Kara over to them then to bring 30 guest stars to her world.
I thought about that, and came up with my own solution. The window of opportunity to grab Kara on Earth One was favored because it was literally a World Without a Superman (comics reference intended). Also, no Martian Manhunter. And no Guardian.
(Ok, the last one was a tongue-in-cheek joke…but I actually like Mehcad as a actor.)
I wonder what happened to Overman. Was he dead? No mention of Overman or explanation of why only Overgirl existed on Earth-X
I don’t read the comics, so I’m going by just what I see on these shows (although, I must admit, I did look up what number Earth Supergirl was from on some comics wiki). This does make sense, and I suppose the technical mumbo jumbo needed to explain _how_ they actually monitor all the different parallel universes could be a little dry (to say the least). But maybe Cisco has talked about how he’s been surveying different Harrys from the various universes and it just went over my head. Anyway, thanks!
Green Oliver and Felicity getting to married. He also loves her.
I am a huge fan of Olixity but GOOD LORD this crossover almost changed my mind. Both were so selfish and whiny
So… Iris has been in love with Barry since she was nine, but not once showed him that. Chose Eddie not once, but three times over Barry even saying “screw the future” in regards to a newspaper telling her she could end up being married to Barry. Who only ended up “giving it ago” after an alternate version of them (who were totally different people). Who (unlike Felicity) doesn’t believe in hem when he does heroic stuff, but gets angry and tgen manipulates things her was by drilling it in his head that “we are the Flash”. Then there is Barry. Who had a puppy crush on Iris. Then his mom got killed and he had togo live with that girl. Because of that, he becomes so fixated on her and thefalse sense of security it gives him after he lost all. He then manipulates Iris and circumstances in a way that eventually she does choose him. This relationship is described as “perfect” and “couple goals”, but there are so many things wrong fundamentally, it’s disturbing they want to set an example for young men and woman with this. And now wehave to deal with this crap for seasons to come? Yeah, thanks but no thanks. Less romance, but if they insist, write a flowing not over the top relationship between two characters/actors that actually have enough chemistry to believe it.
Tl:dr
Iris may have loved Barry as a brother way back when she was 9, but she never said she was in love with him. It was something to the effect that with Barry by her side they can accomplish anything. The story back when she was 9 was an example of that.
You can dislike the couple all you want but that is a seriously skewed version of their history. Neither Barry nor Iris have ever manipulated each other. Iris believes in Barry more than anyone else on the show and the whole “we’re the Flash” line is about them being partners and facing whatever comes at them as a united front. Barry didn’t manipulate circumstances to get Iris to choose him. Iris took the time she needed to realize and accept the fact that she’s been in love with her best friend for most of her life. Given that he’s the person (aside from her father) who means the most to her and who she’d be lost without, it took her a long time to acknowledge those feelings and face the possibility of losing him by taking their relationship in a new direction. It’s the same reason it took Barry so long to tell her how he’s always felt about her. They were both afraid of losing the most important person in their lives. It’s a very common reaction for people who go from being friends to lovers. Sometimes it takes them years (even decades) to realize how they truly feel about each other because they’ve spent so long thinking of one another as “just friends.” Iris and Barry are soulmates. They’re each other’s constant in every single universe. It might’ve taken them a bit longer to figure things out on this Earth but that doesn’t make their connection any less special.
Thank you, Meg!
This was a beautiful summation of Barry and Iris’ relationship! Your words literally made me feel better about the double wedding. Thanks!
Delusional.
While it was an odd choice for them to get married right after the funeral, I thought it turned out very nice, right up until the part where Felicity interrupted. I love Felicity, but what the hell. Not everything has to be about you. Which writer thought this was a good idea? Why couldn’t Barry and Iris just have their own moment?
—
Aside from that, the crossover was wonderful and entertaining. I enjoyed it very much. RIP Stein.

I was really hoping Russell Tovey/The Ray would stay on Earth One. Loved the gay twist with Captain Cold. I already love them as a couple. Here’s to hoping we’ll see them again.
Two Weddings and a Funeral.
Three, if you count the original interrupted wedding.
(Four, if you reeeeeeeeeeally stretch and count Alex and Maggie’s cancelled one)
Liked it more than last years. Glad they stepped up their game. May not agree with every detail, but eh, it was fun, and in the end that’s the most important thing.
Ok…..are they not aware that Papa Bristow is not allowed to die??????
Loved everything except the weddings which were just ok. Would have been better if Barry had grabbed Thea and Joe at least.
Oliver and Felicity aren’t legally married. No marriage license.
They probably filled out the paperwork afterwards.
Not legal!
They really should have had Felicity suddenly decide that she wanted to marry Oliver either before or after Iris and Barry got married. Disrupting their nuptials was rude.
I’m gonna be a minority and I say I really liked the double wedding. Sure, Felicity’s timing could’ve been slightly better but I just felt like she got carried away by the emotion of Barry and Iris’ vows and just couldn’t help herself. It happens and was actually very sweet in the end. I like both couples so I’m a very happy shipper right now.
–
WA’s vows were lovely and special and Olicity didn’t need it because I feel like we’d already had them in S4 but also throughout the crossover, pledging their love for each other.
–
Plus it was a nice full circle moment from the very first crossover.
PLEASE! Can you find out if there will be repercussions from Barry technically not saying “I do” like the waitress told him to? You don’t even have to find what they’d be, just if there will be any at all. Thank you!
You do realise that most weddings don’t actually have a part in the ceremony that require the bride and groom to actually say I do?
“Most”….?? I cannot recall a wedding I have ever been to where they DIDNT. “I do” is kind of a thing, y’know?
Don’t know if that’s true in real life, but you do realize that it’s a part of every TV/movie wedding, right?
Regardless, my point was that there’s speculation that Barry not actually saying the words may result in something bad. I just wanted to know if that’s truly the case the writers have in mind.
Tremendous crossover. Amazing. Never expected to enjoy it as much as I did. Actually felt a tad silly crying like I did. :) “Over crazy superhero shows,” I kept thinking! And guess I’m also in the minority here, but I loved the double wedding! Bravo to all involved!
You know, spousal privilege is going to come in handy as Oliver crosses swords with the FBI.
As for the double wedding: As I said, Ollie and Felicity are the rarest of creatures, the Wedding Crashers who were actually invited. :)
If this was any other pair of couples, the faux pas would be world-shaking. But I have a feeling that there are lots of interactions between those four people — five, counting Diggle — that we don’t see. The closeness there … if Iris and Barry weren’t mad about it, I don’t see why we should be.
Is Oliver even allowed to leave Star City right now? He’s out on bail.
Wedding girl will return. She is either (a) Dawn Allen, Barry and Iris’ daughter, or (b) Jenni Ognatz, daughter of Dawn. I say Jenni because she’s also known as XS (excess, people, not extra small) of the Legion of Superheroes. She may show up on Supergirl since she has teammates there, but Legends is possible.
I actually like both couples but I thought the double wedding was in poor taste. At least let Barry and Iris finish their (2nd) ceremony before deciding to spontaneously tie the knot. After all the lead-up to their wedding, they should’ve had at least one ceremony that didn’t get interrupted and was all about them. Here’s hoping that Nora/Dawn/whoever she is meant what she said about doing the “I do”s so there’s a need for a 3rd ceremony that actually isn’t interrupted and includes all the people Barry and Iris love most. At least their vows were beautiful and they looked so happy.
Biggest takeaway is how oblivious the writers on all four shows are. People were upset about the Nazis, and I understand that. But if that’s the story they wanted, then fine. But then they killed James Olsen in 2 minutes, sidelined Wally and Diggle (not to mention Joe and Cecile, which makes some sense because they’re not superheroes), nearly killed Jax, and THEN let the Jewish man get killed by Nazis. I mean…wow. I know Victor Garber was leaving, but was that really the best way to do it? They also could’ve easily swapped Winn and James’ roles, and idk what kept them from using Wally and Dig, but there had to be a better way, right? I’m not trying to get overly PC, but there was a lot of insensitivity happening here. How did no one see it?!
There were A LOT of people to write into this, and I think the writers were trying to find a way to include everyone somehow, but there are a lot of main characters across these 4 shows. You know Stein isn’t the only Jewish character, right? And there were plenty other non-white characters in all 4 episodes. I think the writers did a decent job of incorporating nearly everyone, and I think you’re looking for something to be offended by.
I was personally bummed we didn’t get J’onn J’onzz. David Hardwood is so great and I’d of loved to have seen him play off some of these other characters he never works with.
