Warning: The following contains spoilers from The Ranch Part 4 finale. Just starting your binge? Circle on back to our premiere recap by clicking here.
Intentional or not, The Ranch‘s latest cliffhanger gives the show a pretty easy way to get rid of Danny Masterson’s Rooster. ICYMI: The actor was fired by Netflix on Dec. 5 following multiple accusations of rape, with the streamer announcing that his character would be written out of the show towards the end of Part 5, set to debut in 2018.
In the Part 4 finale, “If Tomorrow Never Comes,” Beau tells Colt that he’s changed his mind about buying the Peterson ranch. When all hope seems lost, Jerry reveals that Rooster has power of attorney, and can act on behalf of their father in regard to all financial and legal matters. Rooster is worried about going behind his dad’s back, but ultimately signs off on the purchase.
As you’ll recall, Colt and Rooster were counting on the pipeline money to come through after spending all the family’s savings to acquire the Peterson ranch. Unfortunately for them, the deal is called off at the last minute, thus putting the family in financial ruin. It’s all but certain that Beau will blow up at the boys once he and Maggie discover what they’ve done. He’s also likely to place most of the blame on Rooster for going along with Colt’s plan and abusing his power of attorney. Heck, it’d be totally in character should Mr. Bennett decide to cut Rooster out of the family — and if that’s not enough of a reason to skip town, then perhaps he’ll leave with new girlfriend Jen (recurring guest star Maggie Lawson). After all, now that the pipeline deal’s been squashed, she has no good reason to stay in Garrison and not return home.
The future is also bleak for Colt and Abby. As we discovered in Episode 9, Abby got the teaching job in Denver — and her fiancé is not happy. Even worse, the gig starts immediately. Colt makes clear that he doesn’t think a long-distance relationship can work, then his bride-to-be packs a bag and leaves without saying goodbye. Suffice it to say, their walk down the aisle is likely to be postponed. (So much for getting married on John Elway’s birthday!)
All of the above is going to have Beau seeing red, despite the fact that he’s in no position to increase his blood pressure following a sudden heart attack in Episode 8. In the wake of his medical scare, the Bennett family patriarch agrees to let ex-wife Maggie take him for an angiogram in Grand Junction, which explains why he wasn’t around to put the kibosh on Rooster and Colt’s acquisition of the Peterson ranch.
UPDATE: Rooster’s fate was revealed in The Ranch Part 6. Read our recap here.

What happened with innocent until proven guilty. Also its one thing if you are rapped something else if you regret a one night stand. I dont understand why he was written off when the first investigation found nothing women stop ruining guys lives. From a woman with boys who is scared of women calling rap when it wasnt.
I completely agree with you Mel!!
A few things to clarify: innocent until proven guilty is in a court of law and has nothing to do with your employer’s decision to keep you on board or not – at will employment, right to work, etc. Second, please don’t be so ridiculous that you dismiss multiple women who have come forward as “regretting a one night stand.” If you paid any attention to this case, you’d know the LAPD is in hot water for how they have tried to sweep this under the rug and even with – apparently – substantial evidence they haven’t proceeded as they are legally required. I’m sorry you have such a problem with women that you feed into the bias that we can’t be trusted; women are no more likely to lie about sex crimes than anyone else is to lie about any other type of crime. An employer keeping a man on staff who is a danger to women is a fair thing for them to reconsider – the dude has a nasty streak that has been known for years and it caught up to him, even though the law has so far failed his victims.
All of what you said is hearsay. Of he’s guilty….prison, destroyed career. Fine. But y’all r crying conspiracy because “Scientology”, yet ignoring the signs of conspiracy amongst the so called victims, all of whom were Scientologists themselves, and all involved with him…and consequently rejected. This whole situation stinks.
I’m sorry you don’t understand how these things work. Any crime requires someone to come forward to report it to make a statement, which shouldn’t be confused with heresy. Unless you think that about every crime and every report ever, like a car break in, robbery, etc. and you never believe any of those things when people you know say it happened to them (and I bet you don’t). Given that you want to single out the women and care more about his reputation being ruined than him ruining their lives by raping them, well, it says everything about your lack of character.
Also: “One unnamed law enforcement official told the Huffington Post’s Yashar Ali that there was “overwhelming” evidence against Masterson, but the charges still haven’t been “approved for filing.” The reported evidence includes “audiotapes, emails sent to and from Scientology officers at the time the alleged rapes happened, forensic computer evidence, and a threatening handwritten letter Masterson sent to one of the alleged victims, according to two people with knowledge of the evidence in the district attorney’s possession.” So, Netflix learned of this (and probably more) and made a business decision. If you don’t like it, don’t worry, you won’t ever have to work for them. :)
Lack of character? You’re taking unverified news, anonymous “sources”, and the word of a woman who has made false accusations in the past, and assuming it’s fact. There is no way Masterson would not have been charged if there was “overwhelming” evidence…all this crap is based on conspiracy theories. This isn’t a Weinstein situation, or Kevin Spacey. I care about the truth, and if these women are lying they should have their lives and careers destroyed like they are doing to Masterson. The fact that you, and the Huffington Post(which is using quotes from a third rate Scientology conspiracy website FYI), are supporting this conspiracy theory pile of turds says far more about your lack of intelligence and character than mine
I think he’s referring, more so, to the innocent ones and there are a lot that are accused out of mal-intent which happens a lot. I had a friend to accuse someone b/c she wasn’t chosen for a position. He was fired and everything just to find out she told someone what her intent one. Everyone accused isn’t guilty.
Shut up u act like you know masterson personally when u dont.
Your exactly right. Cause nobody in history has ever called rape on a veleb for the money. Im not saying that’s the case here but anything is possible. It may or may not be the case. You shouldn’t pass judgement on hear say and at this point that’s ALL the public knows. We know what the media gives us and what we hear through the grape vine. We don’t know what happened. Danny does have a small history of crap with law enforcement but nothing as of yet to the extent of rape. If he truly did commit these crimes he deserves to be punished. I’m still gonna be a fan of his work. Yes I would still be a fan of his work if I knew any of the alleged victims. What he did on screen in the past didn’t commit the crime. Maybe I’m a horrible.person for thay but trust me I’ve done worse than remain a fan of an accused rapist.
What’s reported in the media is often never the full story Mel – and by that I mean, the media that is reporting it has mountains of sources, or else they risk defamation and slander law suits – I live in Australia and Geoffrey Rush was falsely accused, which is going to bode very badly for the media outlets like reported it as true.
The reason I say that is because you shouldn’t be worried your kids will be falsely accused if you raise them to respect women, not just spout a defense when you have no information. Also – worried your kids will be taken down by lies? How about women & men who get taken down as victims of rape.
Also, it’s raped not rapped, its rape not rap. Educate yourself on terminology instead of assuming that the men (and by the way I am a man) are the heroes of this story. Nobody wins here.
Dude media lies all the time I have seen CNN and other media on YouTube or just videos.. Shows the lies when 2 different CNN reporters in same state and city… Funny they say they in 2 different cities and states but when watching the vehicles or bicycles going past both of the reporters camera’s but yet they keep saying they in different cities and states but reality they next to each other instead so proves fake news… Mike Brown never had his hands up or was running away instead the media lied the truth came out he was fighting in the cop car stealing his gun then got out walked away then started running back towards the cop… So your a uneducated idiot if you believe in the media cause the media will always lie to the people of America…
This lady just confused hearsay and heresy, I don’t think that continue talking to her – is a smart move. Just sayin.
I agree! Danny, was wrongfully accused and it’s a bad business move on Netflix for doing this. I’ve been a day one subscriber to Netflix and this will cause me to cancel if they don’t bring him back.
I agree. I don’t believe for one second that Danny did any of what he’s being accused of. I love The Ranch. It won’t be anywhere near as good without him. They all go very well together in the show. Won’t be the same without him.
You should rejoice. If you had daughters, they would be overwhelmingly more likely to be raped, than your sons are to be falsely accused of rape. SMH.
This is so hauntingly succinct. I’m going to have to borrow your phrasing.
The way things are going that may not be true in 10 years
Let’s have many people accuse you of secual harrassment at work and see if your employer keeps you on. $100 says they fire you on the spot. One woman can lie, but women don’t get together and sit around and talk about how to ruin lives.
Also how about somebody caring about the abuse these women endure instead of the white boy getting fired.
Some women have indeed gotten together and talked about ruining lives.
They may think they were wronged, but all lousy behaviour is not sexual assault.
Unless there are charges, Netflix shouldn’t be caving into a publicity/harassment campaign waged by these accusers.
Have you ever been employed in the workforce?
Women most certainly do get together. I know for a fact, because I was fired from a job, for supposed sexual harassment. I even provided them with emails SHE had been sending, through the company email. Dirty jokes, dick pics. As an attorney told me, it’s legally impossible, to harass someone, under those conditions.
But, she had got with another girl, and the two, put together a much more compelling story for them. So, I got fired anyway. She got a promotion, and a raise.
So, spare us falsehoods you obviously know nothing of.
agree. its horrible.
It wasn’t that the original investigation found nothing. Scientology tried to cover it up and when more people came forward after hearing one of his victims commit suicide they decided to do whatever it took to stop him even if that meant going against Scientology which is dangerous. Most of his victims come from that cult.
Agreed! He hadn’t been found guilty of anything, (oh and anyone who is going to bring up Kevin Spacey, Netflix didn’t fire him until he admitted his guilt) I don’t think the show will be as funny without Danny. I really hope this gets straightened out and he is cleared and can get his job back
I agree with you, Liz. I’m glad they left it open for him to return. I hope they straighten things out and he can come back. Won’t be the same without Rooster.
I feel for any woman that has been sexually harrassed or assaulted. When I was on my job as a nurse another female nurse pinched my butt and nothing happened to her. She was told to stop but kept doing it to other employees. But we weren’t in a celebrity setting so she got to keep her job and I was the one that ended up leaving. Life isn’t fair. But I enjoy this show so much, I really hope he comes back. If he’s not in jail or formally charged, why should he be forced to leave?
Totally agree….it’s a crock.. would love to petition. If he’s off I’m. Not watching!
If there was a petition I would sign it!
I agree. But it’s rape. Dumbass.
This show will suck without him!!
I totally agree Mel. Once they get rid of Danny that will be it for me he is most definitely the heart of the show, well him and his dad make the show in my opinion. This is just ridiculous how there is no innocent until proven guilty.
I know and then makes it even harder to get the ones who do rap
I agree. This is sad. A lot of innocent people’s lives are being ruined b/c someone wants to be malicious and accuse knowing all it takes is an accusation to destroy someone. Crazy
I totally agree with this post. And I’m a woman
Clearly the left did not learn anything from To Kill A Mockingbird. Sorry to all the women with dignity and are actual victims because good luck getting a job. I would NEVER hire a women since all it takes is a allegation to ruin my life.
Exactly, Mel. They were probably just out for money and when he told them to pound sand, they came up with the famous fake rape scenario.
Dad kicks Roster out the family, which will suck. Without Masterson show goes down hill, just like two and half men without Sheen
Yep Masterson be I fired is the beginning of the end for the Ranch
Masterson being fired is the beginning of the end for The Ranch.
Agreed!
Sorry, Danny Masterson is not the be-all-end-all of this show. Sam Elliot is why I watch this show. The man’s dead pan delivery with perfectly time comedy is the best part of The Ranch. Quite frankly, it’s only been the last 10 or 15 episodes that Rooster wasn’t completely annoying. Besides, this show just finished its 40th episode. For most network shows, that’s just a little over 2 seasons. Worse shows have lost bigger characters and survived just fine. If they want to keep The Ranch going, they will. And it will be fine.
Totally agree with you. I do not watch the show because of Rooster. I find him annoying, so if he’s gone, makes the show more enjoyable for me.
Such nonsence
Sam Elliott is a dream boat. I started watching it because of him and got hooked. I will miss Rooster but they kept it open for him to return. I’ll still watch anything with Sam Elliott ♡
I’ve been watching Part 4 and it just won’t be the same without Rooster, he is the funniest by far.
Yep
i agree 100% JM
I know this a show, but in real life Colt and Rooster could sue the company creating the easement (pipeline) at least for the amount they spent on the other ranch. Its called reliance damages.
This is a good chance to bring in his two uncle’s Tom Selleck and Jeff osterhage but what’s done is done now move on and keep show going
Predictable and awkward.
Better than having that 70’s show cast complete and gives a different direction and gives more history of there family
Most legal contracts have a way out. Like 72hrs to rescind, and certain fee’s may still apply.
Don’t know how the show would be without Danny Masterson.
Ashton Kutcher is against human trafficking, I find it surprising if these allegations are true.
Also, getting kind of tired of this “trend” of everyone on the planted being accused of this. Dustin Hoffman has been accused of “mis-conduct” that happened when he was a teenager. Is there a statute of limitations on this? I believe my son is handicapped because of what happened during childbirth, but I was past the statute of limitations.
And yes, I’m a woman.
Statute of limitations only applies to criminal and or civil legal proceedings. A private company can fire him regardless of this doctrine of law.
.
Also, its only a “trend” because it happens so often. Maybe if men stopped abusing women, this “trend” wouldn’t be happening.
One should have a clear definition between a regrettable sexual encounter and rape. Seems like that line is way to blurry these days…and not in a good way either…
Should be innocent until proven guilty. This is a mans career here. No matter what w woman should not be able to just point the finger and say I was raped without any shred of proof at all….ain’t right.
there is a clear definition of rape be regretsbble sex, which is why one is called rape. And sorry you care about his career more than, say, his multiple rape victims. And good thing there is evidence so it’s not just those evil women making random claims. If he didn’t rape women he would t have this problem…
Soon they’re going to ask the victims to apologize for the inconvenience. Sigh.
As they should!
Coming from a victim of sexual assault who’s perpetrator was convicted and got 18 year and is registered for life as a violent sexual predator.
Dustin Hoffman has been accused of “misconduct” *against* a teenager. The allegations go back to the 80s-90s and he’s born 1937, so his teenage was far, far behind him.
I agree things they did when they were young should not be held against them or even be aloud to be brought up people do and say stupid things when they are young even in their 20’s and if they haven’t done anything since they have matured and became a good man instead of a stupid kid.
Not only am I a woman, I am also a victim of sexual assault. I reported this crime immediately. The man was arrested and charged with the assault, and convicted. I, however, DON’T agree that any accusation should be made so many years later! If I were to report this crime against me, I would not expect it to be prosecuted. It shouldn’t be. What evidence could there be ship many years later to PROVE guilt.
Even if these girls/women reported it to “Scientology”, this is not the police. Everyone knows that the police are the ones to investigate and arrest if evidence so proves.
Sorry Abbott the type-o’s.
TVLine is treating this like Kevin Spacey leaving House of Cards.
No one watches this show.
I’ve been thinking the same! I’ve been seeing them posting recaps and thinking ‘whyyy? No one watches this show. What a waste of resources.”
What? Everybody I know watches The Ranch
My mom watches it!
Our traffic to this story was quite fantastic/pleasing. Have no fear! —Mgmt.
Good to know! Though also sad, cause its such a terrible show! Lol
I’m shocked!
Agree! I know i don’t its slow and boring!
The viewership doesn’t matter. The fact that this guy lost his job because of four separate accusations of rape is the story. It illustrates the point that these cases seem to be rampant in the tv and movie industry. That the show sucks, or no one is watching makes zero difference.
I think it is wrong to write him off unless he was found guilty. I felt that the characters in the story balanced each other but now it’ll only be mostly about Colt trying to figure his life out. But that is my opinion. I really don’t know if I will continue watching the show now.
I will no longer watch after rooster is cut they all make the show
Time for men to do an Atlas Shrugged on women.
What, are you going to take your ball(s) and go home because you don’t like the rules?
I just posted the same thing.
Did I know they were going to buy the Peterson ranch, yes. Did I foresee a problem with the pipeline money coming through, again yes. And just where in the hell are they that it takes them 6 hours of driving to get to DENVER??? Colorado just ain’t that big. LOL Yes I know it’s a fictional place I’m just sayin’ they could have made it a 3-hour drive and have had it made more sense.
According to Google Maps, Durango is 6 hours and 7 minutes from Denver. So, there’s that.
Live in Denver and have family in the area where their ranch supposedly is (near the very real town of Norwood, which they mention on occasion). It’s a 6 1/2 hour drive to get there without traffic or weather delays. Not a lot of major roads in that area – mostly winding roads around mountains and through canyons.
I could see the pipeline deal falling through from a mile away.
What happened with innocent until proven guilty? I know a woman who accused an ex of molesting her child, but after a lie detector test she admitted she lied because she was mad .
I hope there are not many women like this out there, but you never know.
If someone is famous it’s probably worse. I believe in innocent until proven guilty.
I love this show and will continue to watch. Just hope if he is not guilty that he can clear his name.
Can’t wait to see season 5.
This is absurd. For once can’t a organization stand behind the people they hire instead of caving into allegations and always trying to be politically correct. They are allegations, innocent till proven guilty. I think my wife and I will be unsubscribing from netflix now
This wins for most ignorant comment. “Innocent til proven guilty” refers to the legal system, not a private company’s hiring/firing decisions. People are literally fired for being late too often, and the company has every right to do so. If they don’t want someone who is accused of brutally raping multiple people on their payroll, they also have every right to get rid of that person. This has nothing to do with Netflix – you will find that 99.9% of companies would do the same with the amount of evidence stacked against the employee, as well as the public scrutiny surrounding the situation.
LIve the show. Danny has bren accused not convicted and i think netflix jumped the gun. Please stop so mych cussing. Not nevessary to the story line and i have trouble recommending the show to some due to the language
That’s how Ranchers and Rednecks talk. They are being accurate to the actual people :)
I see a lot of rich and powerful guys that have raped . But some people on both sides of the tracks present themselves , in ways that will led people on . Now when poor people are put in theses positions ? They are put in jail without bail . So what everyone needs to do is start looking after each other in theses situations . Are government Officials in Congress Senate and representatives of this country have sex with women and men everyday and this is covered up by the C.I.A. The F.B.I. And the secret service on a daily basis . Most movie stars and singers do the same thing with some of the fans . But as people in this country we all have some type of problems . No one is prefect .
I think this is a bunch of crap, fireing Danny masterson is not right, all a woman has to say now days she was sexually harassed and there life is ruined, what happened to innocent till proven guilty?
This reminds me of the Salami witch trials
The Salami trials…History as taught by $cientology?
Love this show and will miss Rooster! Sorry he didn’t get a chance to prove his guilt or innocence. But going forward, you always leave us with a good cliffhanger! Can’t wait for the new season!!
It’s all crap
I think it’s horrible that Netflix fired Danny Masterson before the guy even had a chance to defend himself! Even a criminal gets a trial! The whole thing looks like an opportunity for a bitter girlfriend, screw buddy etc. to get revenge. I hope Masterson clears himself and sues the butt off Netflix and the woman or women involved.
WTF? Bring back Danny.
So he got fired just for accusations he’s not been legally charged there’s not been a trial I thought you were innocent before you were proven guilty.
Kind of unrealistic to someone who works in the oil and gas business. No one signs any agreement without payment…payment is made at the time the documents are signed, none of this we’ll wire the funds later.
Not happy about Danny Masterson’s firing, should be believed to be innocent until proven guilty.
Could do with a little less of the the “f word”.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Sam Elliott.
Paul R Mauer…Grand Junction is in fact a five hour drive from Denver over Vail Pass on I-70. The fictional town of Garrison is South of Grand Junction. So the six hour drive is believable and may be even a bit underestimated. Facts are always important.
