Sara Gilbert wasted no time addressing the elephant in the room on The Talk, opening Monday’s show with a tearful statement about the spectacular fall of ABC’s Roseanne.
Speaking to her co-hosts (and viewers), an emotional Gilbert — who spearheaded, exec-produced and co-starred in the one-and-done revival — said, “I would like to say this has been a very difficult week. A lot of people have been hurt by this.
“I will say I’m proud of the show we made,” she continued. “[Roseanne] has always been about diversity, love and inclusion, and it’s sad to see it end in this way. I’m sad for the people who lost their jobs in the process. However, I do stand behind the decision that ABC made.”
Gilbert’s televised catharsis comes roughly a week after ABC pulled the plug on the enormously popular sitcom in the wake of Roseanne Barr’s racist tweet, in which she described African-American former Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett as a combination of the Muslim Brotherhood and Planet of the Apes. In a statement immediately preceding the cancellation, Gilbert called her TV’s mom’s Tuesday-morning outburst “abhorrent,” adding that the remark does “not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show. I am disappointed in her actions to say the least.”
On Friday, we reported that preliminary discussions were underway to possibly keep Roseanne afloat without, well, Roseanne herself. One idea being talked about: A spinoff centered on Gilbert’s Darlene.
I wish they could run a show called the dinners with out Rosanne and then all the people could have their jobs back
The conners
I was trying to say they should call a new show the Conners without Rosanne in it but keep jobs for all the other cast members
I feel bad about the comment Roseanne made but I will be honest I only watched the show for Roseanne, Dan and Jackie. I think basing the show around Sarah Gilbert the show will bomb. The show was called Roseanne for a reason.
I agree 100%
I don’t agree. It would have a lot of attention at the start, and personally, my favorite characters were always Jackie, Darlene and Dan.
I mean, I loved Roseanne too, but a lot of my favorite material involved the rest of the cast. John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf always carried the show as far as acting chops.
I would totally watch a show centered around Darlene if the rest of the cast minus Roseanne was there. And it would save the legacy of the show too.
It’s amazing how the cast of The Talk can make their comments about Rosanne’s racist comment and stand behind the decision of cancelling the show. Less than 5 minutes later Sheryl starts making racial remarks about how white people can’t dance, etc. I’m surethat was ok. I agree with the decision of Roseanne being cancelled, but don’t agree with the remark on the show, or any show, no matter who it is.
That’s not a racial remark, that’s a joke (that is made often). Grow up.
So, white people can’t dance is a joke and comparing Trump to an orangatan are jokes, but comparing Obama’s advisor to an ape is racism?!?
Boy, double standards!!!
No. Not a double standard. You should really brush up on what racism is. Clearly, you don’t understand. There is deep rooted history of blacks being compared to apes. It is entirely a racist statement.
I am sick of the word “racism”. Its one of the most overused words these days. I would never compare a black to an ape..Apes are intelligent..
We all come from apes.
Seriously? You understand that for hundreds of years, black people have been called “apes” or “monkeys” in an effort to dehumanize them and to justify institutions like slavery (“Blacks are apes who aren’t as intelligent as whites – they like doing all that manual labor”), withholding rights (“Those monkeys wouldn’t be able to keep up in a classroom with white students”), and maintaining segregation, right? That is why it’s racist – it’s *not* the same as saying white people can’t dance. People really need to educate themselves before speaking in public.
Not at all. I’ll tell you what… after white people are kept in slavery for 200 years THEN you can complain about the white racism. Good grief. You have NO idea what oppression is, do you?
Yes let’s get rid of all jokes.
There are already topics you don’t joke about. You don’t joke about cancer, 9/11, rape, child abuse, etc. Race should also not be joked about.
“You don’t joke about cancer, 9/11, rape, child abuse, etc”
I’ve literally made jokes about all of those topics. The only difference is that I don’t care about what people think about me, that and I’m also not famous. so nobody cares about what I say.
I agree with you 100%. The other hosts were very uncomfortable with that comment.
Sadly you can’t understand the difference between the two.
I will NOT watch the Darlene show! I can’t believe the view is still on the air.
You do know that Sara Gilbert is a host on The Talk and not The View? Two different shows.
Darlene, can go suck a big popsicle! I wouldn’t watch her or her Co horts for anything!
I noticed that also. Roseannes comment was supposed to be a joke too. This was a slur towards all white people in that they can’t dance – not just one individual but an entire race of people. Yes a racist remark.
I agree FULLY with Sara Gilbert BUT find it amazing no mention of the Horrific things said by Samantha b about Ivanka! Double standard much??
No double standard because they aren’t the same at ALL. Samantha called someone a name and Roseanne wrote that a black woman looked like an ape!!!
It would only be a double standard if Roseanne had called Valerie a name!
Please don’t compare the two
[COMMENT REMOVED BY MODERATOR]
Hate speech is hate speech whether it is in reference to race, sexual orientation or gender. What Roseanne said was hate speech. What Samantha Bee said was also hate speech.
I agree. Both were awful
Thank you! I totally agree. The two remarks were equally disgusting and hateful.
Are you as offensed as the president saying he can grab women’s pussies? Sorry but that’s his word.
They were go, more people need to be reminded of this.
This was ten years ago and no proof he ever did that.
Are you just as incensed that Bill Clinton did this and worse while President????
Are you just as upset that Bill Maher and others CONTINUE to compare Trump to an orangutan!?!?
Racism is any comment against another ethnicity in a disparaging way, white, black, or otherwise.
No. just no.
The Bill Maher comparisons are funny and appear to be said without any sense of irony. First, Bill Maher was fired by ABC for inappropriate comments after 9/11. Second, Bill Maher wanted proof (a birth certificate) that Trump was not in fact the love child of an orange-haired orangutan after Trump sent investigators to Hawaii to find out Obama’s true origins. In Trump’s mind, Obama being a black man means he cannot possibly be American. Lastly, comparing a black person to an ape was a literal justification for slavery. Slaves were considered subhuman and closer to apes. As soon as people having orange hair becomes a constitutional justification for them being 3/5ths of a person, you’ll have a legitimate argument.
Do you read what you type? Talk abour circular reasoning! You are making my points all over again.
Time to end this debate for me. I could reason with an ape better. Oops. Was that racist?!?
I can’t tell…..
NO PROOF????? WOW!!!!!!!!
What do you mean there is no proof? We have video and audio of Trump saying those words exactly, and we have multiple women who have accused him of sexual assault and harassment.
No one is upset about Trump being called an Orangutan. I don’t even think Trump was upset about it because he got another 15 seconds in the spotlight out of it and got to engage in one of his favorite activities afterward – filing frivolous lawsuits. There is no legacy of white people being called apes. This is a racist trope that has been applied to African Americans for hundreds of years! Comparing African Americans to beasts was used to justify slavery! Surely you can see the difference, and if you cannot, you are the problem.
Also your whataboutism shows that you clearly don’t care. Obviously you are comfortable with casual racism, probably because you are a racist yourself in addition to being a complete fool.
I am not looking for a fight, just a question. Of my knowledge of the Animal Kingdom; aren’t Apes, Monkeys and Orangutans all from the same species line? Yes, I have heard and am appalled when I hear, pardon my language, African Americans referred to Apes or Monkeys. When President Obama was in Office, I went on the internet all the time, as I do now, the TV was was always on in the main section of the house, same with Famous Celebrities, News Magazines, any source made PUBLIC, and I apologize if I am mistaken a couple times, and President Obama was, again, excuse my language “The Black Ape/Monkey in Office.” I do not recall his wife, Former first Lady Michelle Obama or their daughters being PUBLICLY attacked, nor do I remember the comment about who was in office. Having said that, President Trump is constantly being attacked, as is his wife, daughter and so on. President Trump is PUBLICLY referred to “White Orange-Orangutan in office.” His daughter was just called the “C” word and no matter what he does, PUBLICLY he and his family are attacked. The reason I brought up “the animal kingdom” is because Roseanne Barr made a lewd and racist comment about an African American woman looking like/resembling an Ape/Monkey? Shameful. Now, may I ask, isn’t President Trump being referred to as “The White Orange-haired Orangutan in Office” a racist comment as well? It doesn’t matter where I go on the internet, hear TV Celebrities and all the Major News Magazines and Reporters attacking him in every way possible? President Obama was NEVER attacked with headlines such as “Black Ape in Office.” Not that I ever saw in his 8 years. His wife and daughters, no one had a single bad word PUBLICLY disgracing them and neither of his daughters were even considered to be called the “C” word. He was our President and was always treated with respect. To my knowledge. How can President Trump, “The Orange-haired Orangutan” can not be considered a racist statement? Black/Ape Monkey racist and shameful. Orange-haired Orangutan racist and shameful? To me, those 2 statements mean the exact same thing. Am I wrong or missing something? And his wife, daughter and family are constantly insulted. I am not looking for a history on racism. I do have have another question that, may set some people off. I’m not trying or looking for a fight in ANY way. Yes, I do believe, regardless of color, EVERYONE knows what the White Ancestors of hundreds of years ago did have “slaves.” I know my ancestor’s of hundreds of years ago did not par-take in that as we are from the North. No excuse. The Southerner’s Ancestors did or hand in, buying slaves, and the atrocities they endured. It’s hundreds of years later. The White people of today were not involved or had anything to do with what Ancestor’s or white people, in general, did hundreds of years ago. It will never be forgotten what the white people did to the “blacks” of hundreds of years ago. I had hoped, in my lifetime, I am 52, I would see some glimmer of hope that one day, people are people, period. Racism, would be moving to the back and people were people. Skin coloring was just that. Some people had darker skin and some people had lighter but everyone was equals. Instead of seeing even a glimmer of progress, I have witnessed an already bad system, for lack of a better word, but the process going in reverse. I may, am naive’. How do you recommend moving forward? In honest opinion as I represented an honest opinion. There are good, bad, disgusting, unethical, you name it, in all humans, period. I do not mean any disrespect. My questions are honest, I’ve thought for many years about this last question. Thank you. I look forward to your reply, hoping I’m not called an idiot, are u blind, etc.
Since your name is “honestquestions101, I’ll assume you’re looking for answers, if there are any. Your post was very long and I just skimmed over it, but I wanted to say that both Malia and Sasha Obama were attacked, and they were CHILDREN. Chelsea Clinton was attacked, and she was a CHILD. Jimmy Connor’s daughter was attacked and I believe she was the first child in the White House since the Kennedys. I haven’t seen Barron being a target, but I could have missed that. Adult children, especially adult children who make themselves out to be one thing, then backstab their gender in the back, are big enough to take it, IMO. I don’t know how we move on, that’s a question for smarter people than me, but until my friends don’t have to worry about their children being pulled over for a traffic stop and then shot or beaten for no cause, I don’t think progress is attainable with this administration. Since this is a Roseanne topic and we’re talking about Ivanka Trump in this part, I’m not sure everyone knows what spurred Samantha Bee to say what she said. Immigrant children are being separated from their parents, many toddlers & younger, and sent away to who knows where, or kept in “detention centers..” This is causing a huge uproar and while this is happening, Ivanka posted a picture of herself, cuddling her child. Sweet picture, except tone deaf considering what’s happening and considering people are pleading with her to talk to her father – which never really happens. Last word: if you use your father’s position to get China to give you trademarks, you’re fair game for criticism and any damn thing they want to call you. My opinion, of course.
@Lillian – I’m guessing you meant Jimmy CARTER, President — not Jimmy Connors, tennis player.
He was not president nor was he running for president when he said that. And if you listen to what he actually said, he said that when you are famous, THEY LET YOU do whatever you want……”
You know the saying leopards don’t change their spots. Did you not pay attention to his words and disparaging remarks during the campaign? Wow the fact that you are justifying and excusing his words is astounding because he wasn’t running for office.
I am. I’m nauseated by where today’s political and entertainment personalities are taking us
Haha, it’s not a double standard. Using the “c” word isn’t equivalent to, you know, RACISM.
I think it’s actually worse. If you don’t think so, then I guess you won’t mind it if someone calls your daughter that word….
Although I prefer not to be called either, I would rather be called the C word than I would the N word. So no it is not worse.
I think most women would disagree with you. But remember what you said the next time someone calls you that. smh
David, please don’t presume to speak for what most women would think, feel, or say. It’s simply not an intelligent argument.
No, David, you don’t get to decide what most women would think. I’m a woman who will easily tell you that dehumanizing racist language is worse than being called a c–t. I’m also in a room with two other women right now. They told me to tell you that they think the same.
Did you have the same outcry when Ted Nugent called Hillary that, and then was invited to the White House? Did you have the same outcry when 45 supporters were wearing shirts calling her the same exact thing? Did you speak up when Scott Baio stood in front of the word when speaking about Hillary? Are you offended by the words out of 45 own mouth about grab them by the p…y? Blood coming from you know where? Did you vote for 45? Maybe you should self reflect if your answer is no to any of these questions, otherwise you are being a hypocrite.
So, tell me Werdna–are you a woman? I am. I’m also a moderate liberal. As a woman, I was horrified and disgusted that a WOMAN called another WOMAN that word. In case you didn’t know, it’s not a compliment. In my mind it was just as equivalent as what Roseanne said–hateful remarks are hateful remarks. I to, am nauseated by the political sides and the so called, “entertainment” personalities who aren’t funny or entertaining. (Side note, I guess with regard to the #MeToo movement–some didn’t get the memo–or it just pertains to “their” side.)
I am a women and I despise that word out of ANYONE mouth, male or female. Saying that I do not equate vulgarity to racism both hateful and disgusting but one has harmful effects than the other. I fail to see how any of these remarks pertain to the MeToo movement but whatever. Yes politics have become nauseated but not by “entertainment” but by the one who holds the office. He has made it a circus, he own doing and the fact that many ignores his constant lying and stage show is dumbfounding to me. See I have higher standards for the one who hold that office than the comedians maybe many of you should think about that.
Also, why would they question Sara about that?
A big part of the show is discussing situations going on with celebrities. If they were to gloss over the Rosanne situation, just because of Sara Gilbert being part of the panel, people would question why., If they were to bring it up, but not have Sara be part of the discussion, people would question why the one person on the panel that actually has insight and on it, kept her mouth shut. It’s a standard no win situation
This issue is Sara’s issue. The Samantha Bee issue does not have anything to do with the Roseanne issue. Why is that so hard to understand. Sara was commenting on an issue that directly affected her.
the show is called Roseanne for a reason. Sara Gilbert made her fame and fortune on Roseanne or she might be waiting tables. The show could survive without her but it cant without Roseanne, Dan Laurie. Other people have said things, see SNL, Kimmel, Conan etc and nothing happens; ABC should be ashamed. I am going to miss Greys but with the other networks NBC FOX CBS Hulu, Netflix, Amazon etc who needs ABC. The shows worth watching they cancel ( Designated survivor for example) and the duds they keep. This show made them big bucks..hope they loose more big bucks
What racist things have been said by Kimmel, Conan, SNL etc?
How does the “orange-haired orangutan” in office decipher from the “African American woman looking like or resembling an ape or a monkey? Orange haired in office (President Trump-orangutan (same species family as ape, monkey) vs. African American – Ape/monkey. (same meaning and falls under same animal kingdom species. How is one only once of those comments represent racism? They essentially refer to a person referred to or resembling, as another posted used the word beast. 2 ppl, and Beast? All TV Comics, Actors, Newpapers and Magazines, search engines, you name it, except for one TV News show, have all PUBLICLY called President Trump those exact same words and none of them even get a “slap on the wrist,” but Roseanne, PUBLICLY tweets “The American African woman looks or resembles an Ape or Monkey and is FIRED??? (I am not condoning Roseanne) Yet, our President called the exact same thing, no one outcries, yet band together and now that many more call him the same thing everywhere. Has anyone gotten Fired? No. Has any person got suspended? No. Has anybody said, “I am a professional and what I said was wrong to the President of OUR US? Not one. But, if you say the exact same to the African American or any Any African American woman and the beast word in the same sentence, you WILL LOSE YOUR JOB. The President, scream it, print it, call him it in PUBLIC, to his face and absolutely zero consequences result. No you think when President Obama was in Office, one person, Celebs, all media anywhere EVER once called “President Obama, Ape in Office?” I’m just asking why only one comment can be considered a racist remark? And had just one Famous person referred to President Obama in the same wording as Pres. Trump; the out-pour and firings would happen. To me, that is definitely a double standard. Amazingly enough, President Trump, like him or not, has OFFICIALLY done more in his months in office than any President in US History. Not even 6 months in office and he’s done laps around President Obama’s 8 years as President and any other President before him in US HISTORY. The facts are there if you can by-pass all the fake news still trying to bring him down.
People likening the extremely Caucasian President Trump to an orangutan due to their similarly colored hair is “the exact same thing” as what Roseanne did…? Also: “officially”?
This isn’t a hill you want to die on.
Matt, Thank you for your reply. Let me try to explain what I meant more specifically. Roseanne called or referred to An African American Woman as an Ape/Monkey. Am I correct? To be perfectly honest, I was so disgusted by the headlines, I couldn’t even read the entire story. I believe I have gotten the gist of what she did). That was lewd and appalling. And she was FIRED immediately. (I believe that that type of language should not be applied to anyone. The fact that she is famous, her inappropriate words cost her and everyone associated with the show their jobs and income). Now, President Trump, a white orange haired (racial description, just as or showing less respect than using the correct terminology such as An” African American”) referred to an orangutan. Both describe the color of ones skin to the same type or class of Primate (gorilla, monkey, ape, orangutan = essentially the same Animal species. Roseanne has consequences for her inappropriate language. As I said, when President Obama was in office, he was never publicly criticized as being, and pardon the language, “African American/Black Ape/Monkey/Orangutan in office.” In 8 years as President, he was never PUBLICLY called such sames. People respected he was OUR PRESIDENT and, to the best of my knowledge, no headlines, Famous People, no one with the ability to reach millions and billions of people EVER referred to him as I said above. President Trump is PUBLICLY from everyone with the ability to reach those millions and billions of people call or refer to him as “Orange-Haired Orangutan in office.” I don’t care what color ones skin is, it is inappropriate to use that type of language. Yet, Trump is OUR President now and he is called those vial names on everywhere possible and no one bats an eye. Do you think if President Obama were called those names people would have turned a blind eye? Never, ever. So, my question goes back to Why is it allowed, promoted, broadcasted that him being called “Orange haired Orangutan” accepted? I’m not talking politics. Politics are everyone’s own choices. Matt, that is my question. Just the stuff I wrote. Not a history on racism or anything else.
Yes, you are correct. I do not want to die on this hill. I was just hoping everyone was working towards the same goal. I am not pointing fingers at any one “person.” To me, people are people. There is good, bad, ugly in every race. I guess I truly must be more naive’ than I thought.
You do realize that ABC has ownership in Hulu, right?
Sara Gilbert was a CHILD when she started on original Roseanne and has had a fairly healthy career since. Her sister and brother did pretty well on Little House on the Prairie. Gilbert kids work. I find the waiting tables remark unnecessary.
I’m disappointed in Sarah Gilbert. The total lack of forgiveness she has for Roseanne disturbs me. Roseanne has begged for forgiveness over and over again, and it falls on Sarah Gilbert’s deaf ears. I hope that Sarah never says something that she wishes she could take back. Those who forgive shall receive forgiveness.
Everyone deals with things differently and has their own timetables for offering forgiveness based on how they process the situations that they are dealing with. It isn’t up to any of us to dictate that less than a week absolutely has to be the right amount of time.
You’re exactly right. Then Sarah should have stayed quiet while she processed this. Instead she lashed out quickly. If she can’t forgive right away, thats fine, but she shouldn’t have lashed out quickly, either.
Again, everyone handles things in their own way and its not for you to dictate what someone else “should” do .
You’re wrong.
She couldn’t remain silent. She’s an Executive Producer of Roseanne in addition to being one of the stars. If she hadn’t responded immediately, the Crazy Internet People would have read all sorts nefarious motives into her silence.
She never said she didn’t forgive her, or wouldn’t. Forgiveness doesn’t mean you don’t get punished.
She made it clear that she won’t forgive.
What she made clear now, doesn’t necessarily reflect how she’ll feel in the future. Just because she stated what she truly and strongly felt and believed at the time, doesn’t mean that things like reflection, conversations, time, etc won’t come into play and eventually get her to forgive her, despite not agreeing with certain things.
Except Roseanne kinda threw her castmates under the bus last week and yelled at them for not instantly defending her, and her attempts at apologizing didn’t exactly come off very sincere. She was trying to blame her tweet on virtually everything else under the sun and attempting to explain or justify something that can’t be explained or justified. This isn’t the first time she’s tweeted out something offensive, after all. How can people be sure she won’t pull a similar stunt again? How do they know she’s truly aware of why what she said was so wrong? She hasn’t really given much indication that she can answer either of those questions satisfactorily.
Sarah would not have a career without Roseanne. How quickly she forgets.
Maybe she forgave her for the other racist things she has said and done. Maybe this was one too many.
I think the big issue is that Roseanne has been tweeting some pretty awful things for years now so this was the Straw That Broke The Camel’s Back. Sarah Gilbert might, in time, forgive her privately but not publicly. As the producer of the show she’s backing ABC. She’s also the one who has to deal with all the fallout from the cancellation, including all the people who lost their jobs
Forgiving someone doesn’t mean you have to forget it happened or let toxic people remain in your life. You forgive for your own peace of mind. You don’t have to absolve other people of their guilt or accept bad behavior.
Sorry tough to forgive when it is a pattern not a one time offense. Maybe in time Roseanne could redeem herself, but looking at her history I doubt that will happen. Maybe it is time for people like Roseanne to stop and think about her words and actions and take responsibility to change because it looks like she hasn’t learned a thing since her disaster national anthem debut.
Miss Gilbert has always been the voice of reasoning on The Talk.I think maybe it wouldn’t have hurt her to attempt to see this as many others have. That the intent of the tweet was not racial but political. Further more having understanding of Roseanne’s mental state and tweeting addiction she was put in charge of making things go smoothly at the beginning of this reboot season. If only she had said one kind thing about Roseanne I could still look at her the same.
Excuse me, but how can comparing someone to an ape be political?
How was it political? She compared a black woman to an ape. Something that has been done for years by racist a holes. Maybe you should open your eyes a bit.
Ditto
That ditto was meant for REW
Everyone of those actors can find a job on another show. Many shows are cancelled all of the time. For example, Taken, Code Black just a few that I love. Let it go. These actors have been on other shows before and will be again. Just drop this show.
When she said she was sorry for everyone who lost their jobs, I don’t think it’s the other actors she was referring to as much as the crew. I would guess there are many more crew members, who by the way don’t make actor’s salaries, that are now out of a job. I also read that the cancellation came too late for them to find jobs on other new shows that got picked up
Sarah looked sad throughout the show, I see there’s discussion regarding Sheryl Underwood’s comments. I have mixed feelings about hers but I think Sheryl’s comment was a little too soon. The other hosts were uncomfortable with it too.
Why is everyone so focused on the Jarrett insult? According to other news sites Roseanne made a number of bad tweets in a fairly short time span. It wasn’t just one tweet at a single target.
I think you are right. I don’t think they pulled the show over that one tweet. I think it was more about what her next tweet would be. The show was in preproduction so it was safer to cancel now rather than wait until Roseanne said something even worse after they had filmed several fall episodes and didn’t have time to find a replacement. Whatever the reason, I’m glad Roseanne Barr isn’t being rewarded with a salary from ABC. I never could stand her long before Trump was anything except a bankruptcy seeking, skirt chasing real estate developer.
AND yet he wouldn’t look ur way…sounds like you’re jealous …AND awfully ugly just like Trump. Hey he spent millions to help many Americans since Obama couldnt.
U just sound like a whiny ass Clinton supporter
And you sound like a lunatic Trumper with your head stuck up his ass.
Roseanne has been tweeting that stuff for years, actually. Lie down with a dog you get fleas. Sorry for insulting dogs.
She is standing behind a decision to release hundreds from their jobs. Go back to your luxury mansion and nannies and maids.
It takes a lot to kill a cash cow. Disney and ABC cancelled Season 2 because the writers were hitting their stride, nailing it, taking issues like the death of the Middle Class, and what life is like in America today head-on. The truth was just too close to home. Too Trump and not Disney enough. When you want to kill something you go for the head, in this case Roseanne Barr. You can’t tell me, after working with Roseanne Barr for over 20-years, that Disney, ABC, the networks, MSM, and the “powers that be” didn’t know what they were getting. Samantha Bee, a Canadian, was just a distraction.
[Funny comment removed by moderator😢]
I think that’s a good i idea call the show the Connors
I’m wondering how the women on the View get away with the things they say!? Why has ABC not cancelled their show?
AMEN!!
All of you are a bunch of cry baby’s who needs to die …what white person has the right to call someone bels racist ..??? Think about it I’ll wait for the dumb to answer that…and for to it was a joke I’m black and can see that …and flyoff to you all who think they have to stand up for people of color …I mean the hole world thinks it has to stand up like it’s a thing to do now … it’s not a fad you don’t get to jump on a wagon and feel some self goodness because you did one thing in your hole life ….you have no right here freedom of speech doesn’t cover this …if it did Rosanne would still be on
Sounds so good I hope do spend off of show with out Roseanne
Honestly, I feel like Gilbert going back to this show with a woman as problematic as Roseanne was a mistake to begin with. She knew who that woman was and the president she supported. I wouldn’t back a show centered around Darlene because Gilbert cared more about getting paid than she did supporting the people she claims to represent.
It would be nice if ABC would bring the show back. The show ended with Rosanne going for surgery. They could start the new season with Rosanne ‘s death. This way the cast and crew could keep their jobs. I believe it would be the right thing to do.
Rosanne is actually a broadly accessible normative moral reference. People enjoy it for the same reasons they enjoy the movies “Dumb and Dumber” or “Ideocracy”. It makes some people feel closer to the herd when they are probably lagging. So I’m glad to see it go even though I don’t watch it.
I question Sara Gilberts comments since it has been reported that they are in talks to have a show centering on Darlene. I am sure that she finds the comments made deplorable, but I don’t think she is as sad as she is portraying herself.
Ms. Gilbert I’ve followed you since the early days of Rosanne. I’m sure you’ll be blessed with a soon off because you and the cast deserve another crack at the production. I also follow you on the talk. Good job and the best of luck. I will be patiently waiting on the next production.
If ABC thinks they’ll have a hit without Roseanne, they are sorely mistaken. I believe ABC’s knee jerk reaction to cancel the show is along the same lines of canceling their Top 10 show Last Man Standing which has now been picked up by Fox. Dumb.
That old lie has already been debunked but many of you just don’t comprehend. I guess common sense has eluded many of you because if what you want to believe was the case they wouldn’t have put it on in the first place. Think people.
What most people don’t know but has been reported is that any actor that had their option picked up for next season would be paid regardless of actually shooting it. It’s wasn’t known if any writers had the same deals.
By doing a season without Roseanne, ABC can at the very least recoup those costs and make a little money in the process. They were set to make 60 million for the next season with her.
The first episode will probably do very well, as viewers will tune in to see how they address her removal. Like they did with Charlie Sheen on Two and a half men. And like Men, the ratings will decline without the star. Rosanne was that show and without her, they don’t have a show.
I never liked Roseanne and I’m not interested in Sara Gilbert’s character. I do love John Goodman and wouldn’t mind checking out a show with him as a widower being exposed to modern issues by his children/grandchildren.
Cancel Roseanne and keep The View AND Full Frontal is still gonig as well..Talk about your double standards. I don’t watch any of them. I also don’t support any of the sponsors of these filthy programs.
