Netflix is taking to the streets of Los Angeles to promote “Orange Is the New Black” season two, which hit streaming services earlier this month, with a food truck giving away free fruit-flavored pies and ice cream.
After a run in New York City, the “Crazy Pyes” food truck — inspired by fan-favorite character Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren, played by Uzo Aduba (pictured above, center) — will be handing out free fruit-flavored pies at various locations in Los Angeles this week. The promo keys off Warren’s season-one catchphrase, “I threw my pie for you.” The truck also will give out free chocolate-and-vanilla swirl ice-cream cones, an allusion to another “Crazy Eyes” line.

Netflix execs have said “OITNB” is more popular than its other high-profile original series, “House of Cards.” But the company categorically refuses to disclose viewing numbers, making it impossible to gauge the performance of any of its programming. The “Crazy Pyes” truck is scheduled to visit the following locations:

Netflix also has fueled a “Crazy Pyes” truck in Mexico City, which began rolling there June 3. The company said it plans to hit additional cities throughout June and encouraged fans to check the @OITNB Twitter feed for info about locations and times.

Jenji Kohan (Showtime’s “Weeds”) is series creator and showrunner of “Orange Is the New Black,” based on the memoir of the same name by Piper Kerman about a New York woman who is sentenced to prison after running drugs for an acquaintance. Cast includes Taylor Schilling, Laverne Cox, Jason Biggs, Laura Prepon, Kate Mulgrew, Danielle Brooks, Uzo Aduba, Natasha Lyonne, Taryn Manning, Michael Harney, Samira Wiley and Yael Stone. Transgender actress Cox has been a breakout star of the series, winning GLAAD’s Stephen F. Kolzak award this spring.
