Cablevision Systems, the only cable operator to offer HBO Now as yet, has clinched a deal with Hulu to sell the premium Hulu Plus subscription service to its customers.

Deal marks the first pact Hulu has struck with a traditional pay-TV company to resell the subscription VOD service, which costs $7.99 per month. Cablevision didn’t say if it would offer Hulu through set-tops, or only via web and mobile. The MSO said it would provide info on pricing and availability for the Hulu Plus service in the near future.

“The partnership with Hulu reflects Cablevision’s desire to meet customers where they are,” said Kristin Dolan, chief operating officer. “There is a new generation of consumers who access video through the Internet, and whatever their preference, Cablevision will facilitate a great content experience.”

The Bethpage, N.Y.-based cable company, which faces fierce competition from Verizon’s FiOS, stands alone for now among its peers in marketing so-called over-the-top services like Hulu Plus and HBO Now to customers. Cablevision last week launched a pair of broadband packages that come bundled with a digital TV antenna — services it’s explicitly marketing to “cord cutters.”
