End of an Era
We are saddened to announce that there will be no future versions of Fire. There are several reasons for this end, but the most notable is the loss of developers. Fire's development had dwindled to few developers who do not wish to continue the project alone. In addition, another major contributing factor is the fact that all but one of Fire's IM libraries is no longer in active development.
The good news is that two of Fire's developers have joined the Adium team and have written a transition path. Adium 1.0, upon first launch, will import your Fire accounts, away messages, groups, buddies, and logs into Adium. For future updates and IM needs, we suggest that you look at Adium.
The latest released version of Fire will continue to be available below:

Now a Universal Binary supporting both Intel and PowerPC Macs.

Well, 2.0 is starting to mature… Soon it will be time for release. The only big ticket item remaining is PersonItem. Basically, it is a stronger clustering method with Address Book sync. Some of the code already exists, and Alan and I are busy at work getting the rest done. Once this [...] More

Fire already works with Google Messaging
Sadly, Google didn't feel like including the premier OS X chat client in their list of third party clients. If you wish to chat on Google's IM client within Fire:
- add a new Jabber account
- set the username to your gmail account (xxx@gmail.com or xxx@googlemail.com. Be sure to use the right one, there is a difference)
- set the server to talk.google.com
- turn on the "Use SSL" checkbox
That is all you need. We are aware of some issues with adding users and authorization. We are working to resolve these as quickly as possible
