Product Description

Director Spike Jonze delivers a stunningly original comedy that seamlessly blends fictional characters and situations with the lives of real people: obsessive orchid hunter John Laroche (Cooper), New Yorker journalist Susan Orlean (Streep), Hollywood screenwriter Charlie Kaufman (Cage), and his twin brother, Donald (also Cage). As Charlie struggles to adapt Orlean's best-selling book "The Orchid Thief," he writes himself into his own movie. The various stories crash into one another exploding into a wildly imaginative film. ADAPTATION, the year's most talked about movie, is at once a hilarious drama and a moving comedy.

I was interested in seeing this film because it seemed like it would be a cerebral, clever and technically interesting film whereby Nicholas Cage plays twin brothers...but I was not prepared for this movie to move me emotionally and THAT was the plus!! When one brother comforts the other in a tender moment by clarifying "You are what you love, not what loves you" ...it just leapt off the screen and floored me. The fact that it was uttered by a not very likeable character was yet another plus and made me root for the guy to succeed! Chris Cooper plays yet another oddball brilliantly, but Meryl Streep turns in a performance unlike any in her body of work! In spite of the dark circumstances and unusual relationships in this film, it ends on a very uplifting note and while I am dying to reveal it...I will leave it for the viewer to enjoy! A+ for Adaption!

Nicolas Cage is brilliant as a writer with serious writer's block, and also as his twin self, who seems to skate through life happy as can be. Streep and Cooper are amazing as well, as (of course) we would expect them to be. But the film would not be so great without the writing/directing team of Charlie Kaufman and Spike Jonze. For me, this quote from the film sums it all up:
"That was her business, not mine. You are what you love, not what loves you. That's what I decided a long time ago."
This film is about flowers, Indians, drugs, passion, insecurity, Hollywood, Darwin, fantasy, envy, insanity, adaptation, and adjustment; but mostly it's about love - not the kind you get, but the kind you give. See it.

I have read The Orchid Thief and visited the Fakahatchee Strand, so I was very interested in this movie. It is a very strange movie when you consider it is taken from the book. It was entertaining.

This is a GREAT movie. One I needed in my library so it and I can enjoy repeated viewing. Both Kaufmann brothers and both Nicolas Cage's should have won Oscars for their fine work. Similar to music, a director is often rated on his follow up movie. Spike Jonze nailed this movie.

The movie played to about half way then it ended. I received half of a movie and was asked to pay shipping and return it. I havent had time to do that yet and when I do I will write a review on the process and if it was even worth the effort.

I wouldn't recommend it. I thought as a writer this would be appealing to me, but I was really bored out of my mind unfortunately.

I could go on all day for why this is one of my favorite movies of all time. However, since I do not want to bore y'all, I'll just simply say that this movie proves that Nicolas Cage is an elite actor. Charlie Kaufmann is a master at screenwriting. Very meta film,

I think this movie is totally underrated. I've been a fan of this movie since I first saw it in the theaters. I show this film in my Film Appreciation course and the students always enjoy especially after our discussion on it.
